What do you miss?

What is it most that you miss since being dxed with MS?

My answer to this is losing my Tractor/Trailer and Motorcycle License.

This is a great thread and question :o) I have most "criteria" for Ms but am still in limbo in regards to a diagnosis. I have spinal cord issues ( myelopathy) due to a compression that went undiagnosed for too long. I currently have started two more compressions 2 years after my surgery ( where the hardwear starts and begins). Also have a rare wierd Auto immune Type 1 Diabetes. So I guess you could say I am a "Heinz57" . i chose this group because you are all really kind awesome people.

What I miss the most is planning for anything. I love acting ( and film) and had won a role I wanted since I first heard of the script. In Michigan, they don't come around too much. Anyway, I don't know why I audtioned, but I did and got the part. Deep inside I knew I would have to give it up, as I already couldn't work at the job I worked at for 17 years. That was tough but it wouldn't have been fair to the crew. They are filming this summer. I miss being really "dependable". I have taken care of my mom since my 20's ( I am 43 now). Its getting tough and I feel like I let her down because the other siblings aren't there.

I give everyone so much credit for really sharing their true feelings. Y'all are one special group of people.

On a postive note...my Poms and ferrets really like my down time!! They are my angels!!

I like oil painting too - mostly I do paintings of dogs and flowers etc. - sorry to hear about the hand cramping and pain - I like to paint different styles and experiment. I can appreciate how working in a delicate style would be a problem.

because my hands cramp so very easily that cant hold the paintbrush,it really upsets me.(and hurts like hell)then cant hold steady. collages are great fun to do , but i like to do fine oil painting when i can.

Why can't  you paint? Is it difficult to hold the brush or are your arms too weak? I only ask because I too am an artist - and I was thinking about working with collage - I was thinking of working with bits of torn pieces of magazines and creating images - just an experiment.........

Sometimes, I noticed my arms so weak that I couldn't hold the paint brush in my hand to paint - that was before I thought anything was wrong with me - big time denial.

I'm glad you have a good strong marriage and I know what you mean about what is missing. My husband told me I was too much trouble with the problems with intimacy and divorced me.........

So consider yourself blessed even though things are tough.

I am undiagnosed, but my dream was to get my pilot's licence and attend MIT for graduate school. I am 26 and have yet to finish my bachelor's  degree thanx to my symptoms and now have diabetes too which has destroyed my chances of having a flying career. BUt mostly as others have said I miss not even having to worry about my health. I am the only sick person in my whole family pretty much which is why they think I/m a crazy hypochondriac.

I wanted to bump this up and I also want to thank Carol for being brave enough to share as she did. It is a very important issue and I know that you are definitely not alone in feeling as you do. I have dear friends that are unable to enjoy that aspect of life anymore for various reasons and it does take a toll on them.  It's a huge loss.  ((((((Carol)))))))

I also think that Rena's response was very well said.

Thank you Rena you said that so beautifully.  One thing that has never changed with us is we have and do always try to show are love for each other when are children are present.  The only way they can learn how to treat their mate is by watching how their parents treat each other.  Everyone should remember that one.

I also wanted to bump this up because I think it helps all of us to hear others views on our problems or the things we miss most in life since this ugly monster has reared it's head in our lives.  I would love for everyone to reply to this post because I'm pretty sure everyone here has probably lost something in their lives.

I'll be praying,
Carol

I can appreciate your honesty honey about the most natural thing in the world that some like to make into something pornographic...you put it beautifully and I feel for you and your husband.  There are other ways to show each other how much you care and love each other and it doesn't have to have anything to do with completing the sexual act.  I am sure that a large part of your love for each other is expressed by how you treat each other, touch each other and as long as you don't stop doing that I am sure that the love will continue.  You are a lucky woman to have found a compassionate man such as you have and I hope that the two of you are able to find that little niche that I know is there for the two of you to show each other, each other's love!  Don't give up completely, let your inhibitions go crawl in the closet and enjoy.

Lots of Hugs,

Rena

Hmmm,  What I miss the most.  This is very easy for me but I'm not sure how appropriate it is to write about, but here it goes anyway.

I miss making love with my husband. I've lost all of my sensation in certain important parts and for some reason it also causes me great pain in my back and legs.  It's just something we cannot do at this point in time.  I realize that most of you will say things like there are other positions but trust me already been there and done that.

My husband and I have been married 26 years on June the 25th.  Up until I got MS we had a very active love life.  I'm talking like, we still acted a lot like newlyweds throughout our whole marriage.  You can ask my kids and they will tell you how embarrassing we used to be because of how we acted most of the time.  It was all in fun.

But, in all honesty I do miss making love and all that comes with it more than anything else in this world.  My husband has been wonderful through the whole thing but I can tell that he is also very unhappy about our love life.  I guess I need a new word because we don't have a love life.  We now act more like friends than husband and wife.  I so do miss it all and him very, very, much.

I apologize if I have offended anybody in any way.  I just wanted to be honest because I'm pretty sure I can't be the only one that deals with this in their lives.

I'll be praying,
Carol

I miss the "pain-free" days I use to take for granted before my diagnosis.  I'd give just about anything to wake up pain free.....Just one day even...I'll take just one day..

Hey buster...I am in Ohio, but in the north it is flat which has been a godsend for my cycling.  (Honestly...OH is okay if you get out and look around, as is anywhere in the world.)  We just had "Bike Week" here in nearby Sandusky...unfortunately it was motorcycles and not bicycles!

I miss ME and long distance cycling.  100 miles would be a fun ride for me.

I have learned to stop pushing and pull back, but that is not who I am.  My husband very eloquently explained this to the doctor in a recent visit and even though he is not a cyclist, he knows what I have lost.

Fortunately I start treatment in a few weeks and I hope the wheels will be spinning for me.

Thank you for a thought provoking thread.  And I am sorry you miss your motorcycle.   It just doesn't work if you are seated on the b*tch pad, does it?  Perhaps you could start a new trend?

Wanna :o)

Agreed, I think we all miss our lives as we knew we lived them. But even as we age I see we have changed, not being able to do the things we use to do when we were younger. Heck, you won't see me benching 350 anymore, lol...Thank you for your input.

Great thread!  I am also undx'd still but . . . .

I miss running, I never was a avid runner but enjoyed the occasional sprint with my kids racing and I ran / walked a marathon in 2006.

The thought that I may never be able to do that again makes me sad and angry.

Hugs to all!

Thank you for your kind words.  I have been through a lot, medically but I know that a lot of people are going through or have gone through a whole lot more.  We all have our challenges and have to do the best we can to live the best life we can:o).  At this point, I just need to know what is wrong with me.  I think I can handle whatever diagnosis given as long as it's not another wastebasket one.  I just want answers so I know what I'm dealing with and have a chance to get some real help.  I am able to function so that most people can't tell there's anything wrong a lot of the time, but the more time passes, the more obvious the toll whatever this is taking on me is.  People who know me, even casually, are able to tell now that I struggle. It does get me down sometimes and I do get very, very frustrated sometimes when I think that I'm in my 20s and should be able to do so much.  I have more in common health wise with my grandmothers than my sister for example.  My sister is five years younger than me and is able to be supermom.  I can't even keep up.  That does get to me at times. All of you here seem to go through so very much and my heart goes out to you.  Regardless of whatever we are up against whether it be MS, a mimic or whatever, this is a fantastic group of people that are able to give so much knowledge and support:o).  I've never come across a group like this ever.

Yup, had to sell her when the pain made it not fun. She was a 900cc V twin with some fancy valves and carbon fibre bits, she weighed 386 full, what a time it gave us. 265 klms on a calm Sunday morning...sure did make me feel alive, miss that, and then going for breakfast at the local.
Told the wife if I need a wheel chair it'll have a V twin thumpin under me.
My son inlaw has a few HD's. Good memories.

  Any pictures?
