What to do???

Hello.  I need some advice. I'm a 33 year old female in overall good health.  2 years ago, my scalp was numb behind my left ear around toward the back of my head.  Had CT scan to rule out tumor. Came back clean.  That went away.  About a year later while lying in bed reading, I noticed the pages of the book I was reading were a light pink color (a new book, I thought the pages actually were pink).  I when I put the book down to go to bed, I noticed the ceiling was also light pink.  Vision was dark almost red in left eye only....right eye was normal.  When opened both eyes, vision was pastel pink or when I looked only thru my left eye, it was dark....when looking thru only right eye vision was normal.  Lasted for almost 3 months.  Worse when lying down.  Tingling in pads of toes on right foot off and on.  Finger tips (3rd and 4th fingers on right hand) on the pads tend to burn fairly often (like the feeling after being extremely cold and then starting to warm up - burning sensation).  Had a full spinal/brain MRI that showed no lesions (2 different doctors suspected MS).  No spinal tap was done.  That was a year ago.  Finger symptoms have returned the past few weeks.  New symptoms this time include tingling toungue (mostly the tip and top of tounge tingle very frequently - several times daily). No vision problems.  I also notice a strange vibration or buzz near my hips every once in a while.  It feels like my cell phone in my pocket is on vibrate and someone is calling.  This happens every once in a while.  Am I going crazy?  I've been looking online for several months to try to find info on the red vision.  Only thing I can see is a drug side-effect.  Not taking any drugs or meds at all.  Any ideas or suggestions?  THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, I'm very very new here and don't know much but I see no-one has replied to you. I would get another brain MRI. Go back to docs and do them again. You're not going crazy. I had painless buzzing over my pubus for a couple of months before other symptoms began.

What happened after the last bout of tests? Surely you haven't fallen off the radar? Don't doctors keep track of people?

Oh the buzzing...you better believe, there is alot of "buzzing" going on in my body.  It is a very typical complaint.  I have been diagnosed for 12 years with MS.  When I used to tell the Neuro about the buzzing, he used to laugh and tell me how many of his neurology patients talked about the same thing.

When I had it in the pubic area, that lasted for weeks, that was one time I did NOT want my doctor to "fix "  Sorry, I just had to add that in.  Laughter is good for us.  But hey, you have to admit, that symptom is not a bad symptom to have.....Come on girls, laugh with me.....

Best Wishes, Heather

Hi there.  Your "red/pink" vision could be a sign of optic neuritis.  When I had my episode seven years ago, it started out with a large spot in my right eye vision that swapped red for green, before advancing to a full-on blind spot there.  I also have been going through the "buzzies", and they can drive you crazy, but crazy does not bring them on! :)

Write yourself up a good timeline of all your symptoms and how long they lasted and get yourself back to a good MS-specialized neurologist.  You'll probably need repeat MRI's (both with and without contrast) of your brain and spine, a spinal tap, and a visual evoked potential test would probably be in order to check for the remnants of the possible optic neuritis.

Good luck!

I TOTALLY agree with Fishy...  Repeat MRI's would be my advise, also.

Thanks everyone.....Good to hear I MAY not be going crazy, then again.....I just may be.  I'm calling again on Monday to see if I can get in to see someone.  My last neurologist didn't seem to care much about what I was saying. My symptoms were all over the place......I felt like I was seeming to him like I was crazy or a hypochondriac or something.  Thank you all for your posts.  It is good to hear of others with similar "freakiness" going on.  Heather - you'd be a billionaire if you could figure out how to reproduce and bottle your buzzing!

I haver had MS for 30+ years and from talking to others, found out that some reactions are the same and some are really strange.  Besides taking meds, exercise really helps providing you don't get too hot (when working outside in the heat, a cool vest helps!).  Keep your head up and spirits up--you are not alone!

You are definitely not going crazy, but describing some very real neurologic problems.  Fishy was right on when whe said that altered color vision is a frequent sign of Optic Neuritis which has a strong link to MS.

You need to dump you "old" neuro.  Any doc that doesn't seem to care about what we are sying needs to be kicked to the curb.

At this point you need three things.  A new neurologist, preferably one with a large practice of MS.  You need a repeat MRI of the brain and spine (cervical and thoracic) done without and with contrast.  And you also need a test to see if there is evidence of previous Optic Neuritis.  This would be a test called a VEP - Visual Evoked Potential.

Not only are you not crazy, but you are in the right place.  You need some answers to what you have been going through, even if that answer is not (hopefully) MS.
