Fatigue - UGH!!!!

Hi All,

I hope you are well.

Question for you - This darn fatigue with MS -..I am getting hit with massive fatigue  I am in bed at 7:30 these last couple of weeks and when I get up I am exhausted..gain a little bit of energy bu by mid day I wanna put my head down and sleep at my desk...

I try to keep going but I sometimes just have to go to bed...I can't win..I had more energy this summer BUT had issues because of the dam heat but felt better..now that it has cooled down a bit and I am out of the sun, I am freak'n exhausted and can not stay up.does that make sense?

ughhhh if it is not one thing it's another, although since the weather has cooled I have not had many issues, aside from extreme mood, mad, cry, happy, normal again but that is probably from being tired..

JOY JOY

Take Care Jibs

I can so relate at the moment.  I'm not so sure that the modafinil/Provigil makes the big difference with this exhaustion because I took my dose over an hour ago but could go back to bed right now.............

Everyone, please evaluate your activities and don't do anything, like driving, when you have this urge to do nothing but close your eyes....

You are my mirror image - "when I get up I am exhausted..gain a little bit of energy but by mid day I wanna put my head down and sleep at my desk".

Caffeine helps a little bit for me - in high amount, which probably isn't good.  I'm taking Amantadine - it doesn't work as good as I want it to work, but I guess it's better than nothing.
According to my neuro, insurance won't pay for anything else unless I'm a shift worker or have nercolepsy - which I have neither.

Hi Deb,

Thanks, as far as I know I do not seem to be getting up at night (that I can rememember). I seem like I SHOULD be getting a good night sleep as I seem to hit the bed and I am out - but I guess there are different scenerios.

I will have to ask...I have no doubt with my MS I will have fatigue...I guess I am just figuring it all out as I am going along..what a bummer this is going to be :o(

Thanks Jenny

I take Modinfinal, which is the generic for Provigil. It helps a lot, but doesn't completely get rid of the fatigue.

It's important to sleep well at night too, like Deb said.  So if you're not getting good sleep, or if you're waking up in the middle of the night, that's something to talk to your doctor about as well.

I think the generic of Provigil is out there, and if your doctor recommends it, it may be worth a shot.

Also, don't rule out getting a good night's sleep.  I went to a sleep doctor as part of my work-up by the MS Specialist.  I don't have apnea, but I also do not get deep sleep (I never dreamed).  Now I'm on a medicine to help with that, and I dream and get sleep.  It helps, but it is far from a fix.  If you have MS, you will probably have fatigue.

There are many factors that can cause fatigue in MS.  A good neurologist will try to get to the root of what is causing the fatigue.  MS can cause chemical imbalances, too.  It's a nasty disease.

Hey,

All - Thanks so much for sharing...I hear you and you all seem to relate and I can not tell you how it really stinks.

I do try to keep myself going with caffeine but it does not help...rggg.

I started Avonex back in April..I tolerate it good but not so sure it should be helping me with my symptoms as much as it really works for the lesions/relapses, etc.

Interesting to see there IS medications, if needed out there. I have an oppointment in 2 weeks so this is really top on my list for him (my doc)

I have feeling good and crappy...but I guess that is the way it going to be..

Thanks so much

Hi Jibjen!

I just got out of bed to check what I take.... Haha.

I take Modafinil.  I don't really like it, I only take it when I have to do something during the day that will prohibit me from taking a nap.  It helps keep me awake but it feels like I've had 10 cups off coffee so I'm all jumpy and talk really fast.

I take Provigal for MS fatigue.  I would sleep all night and then have to go back to bed an hour after I got up.  Slept my life away on those days, but I had no choice.

Provigal helps.

Hi jibjen, I was diagnosed just a little over a month ago. Fatigue is my  worst complaint. It takes everything i have to make it through the day at work, then by the time i get home all i want to do is sleep. I've been taking a multi-vitamin daily and that seems to help. My question to you is how long since you've been diagnosed and your treatments don't make the fatigue any less? I am on copaxone and was hoping after a while the fatigue would lessen, if not i guess i will just keep expirementing with different vitamins.

So how long will it last?

Like Pastor Dan, I'm not diagnosed. I also have been going through one of my worst spells of fatigue that seems to be getting worse the more time that passes. It's thrown my sleep cycle off completely, with insomnia thrown into the mix.

Sleep does not help the fatigue. I took a three hour nap one night this week and then slept 12 hours that night. Did not make a darned difference the next day.

Some days my eyes are literally closing mid afternoon.

It feels completely different than just being tired.

PD, my back is a problem right now too...I'm walking like Frankenstein, except for the arms, lol. Lidocaine patches are doing nothing and I don't want to take tramadol.

What's that saying ..."no rest for the weary"?

Ditto! I just posted about the same thing, although I'm not diagnosed either. I am so frustrated that I can't do things with my family or keep up with things like housework like I used to. Also, my favorite author, Patricia Cornwell, is doing a book signing and I can't even summon the energy to go to that :(

I usually manage to be somewhat upbeat but right now, am feeling down.

Just wanted to let you know that I do understand.

Hugs, Minnie

Funny you should ask.  No, not funny.  I am (STILL!) unDx, so whatever I say means little, but I went to breakfast yesterday, then went to work on the church remodeling.  After about an hour of cleanup, I had to go get something to give myself energy.  Good excuse for Snickers.   Then took a 90 minute nap.  Painted for around an hour, then came home and slept for 16 hours straight, not counting the times I woke up from lower back pain.  Now I want to close my eyes again.

To answer your question, yes, it makes perfect sense to me.
