Why I can't get a new doctor?
Many have asked me "Why don't you just get a new doctor?"...Well there was an article on the news last night that said "There are more than 4 MILLION Canadians that DO NOT have a family doctor! Where do those people go if they get sick? To the roadside medi centre or to the ER of the hospital! Why does it take so long to see a doctor in an emergency? Because all of the people without a family doctor are going to the ER to have a splinter removed from their finger or because they have the yearly cold and need a note to say they can stay home for a few days!
Now don't get me wrong...there are a lot of people in the ER with legitimate complaints but I, myself have seen some people in ER with ridiculous things that could be dealt with either during the day at a medi centre or in the evening at some medicentres. Why do these people go to the ER with their petty complaints...because of a lack of education that is caused by the government because they don't want to admit to anyone that there is a problem! If the government were to start an ad campaign telling people to go to the medicentres rather than the ER unless it is truly an emergency, the already overloaded medicentres would not be able to handle all the patients...they can hardly handle what they have now. The waiting times in the ER are incredible but the waiting time in the medicentres are ridiculously long and these dr's may as well be at a drive thru window considering the lack of care.
So, now you know why I have to stick to my lying doc and my evil neuro...there is no one else! When a person has to rely on an eye specialist to ensure that a disfunctioning brain is looked after...well this is just scary! Last time I was in ER for breathing problems I was seen by an eye dr. come to think of it...maybe these are the doctors we should all go to for help? Makes ya think doesn't it?
Like one woman from the states said "I had to pay for my healthcare back home but at least I could pay for it and get it...here in the land of free healthcare...sure it's free but it's also non-existent."

Great blog lol....But...I think its from Scotland,wherin the health system differs as it does in Wales... correct me if im wrong, but I do agree it would be cool if the English system was quicker, My mri scan took 3-4 months to get but when i saw the neuro it was ordered and took 2 1/2 weeks which wasnt so bad unless i was gonna die that minute. so all and all wasnt so bad.

The er room is intresting tho cos they do a triage system where the very poorly get seen first, especially in the cases of head trauma,accidents and acute bleeding, which I agree with wholeheartedly,if they have a splinter they have to wait over other more important issues. Is there a triage system in Canada?

jensequitur is right the great british health system sometimes *****,when you finally get to see a specialist many times you do not get to see the "great man" himself only one of his many underlings.I had one of those visits myself the underling couldnt even fill out the prescription right,you think to yourself just what is the use,I have waited since april for a neuro appointment got one for 19th july Im just waiting for them to cancel it with one week to go like other hospital appointments.Then you get one an d the speciali

Move down here! A lot s u c k s down here, but the healthcare is slightly more accessible, even if you do have to pay. I know, that's not a solution, either, but I wish things could get easier and better for you!

I'm glad you can come to us to vent. And remember, puppy, you're sinking your teeth in the system now and trying to make them face their responsibilities. Alpha female! You'll shake some quality care out of them yet.

Yes I did enjoy that blog my dear...like Canada it seems that the "powers that be" really have their thumbs up their a**e* and haven't got a bloody clue as to what needs to be done. In our province I believe that the "College of Physician's and Surgeons" many years ago deemed an "appropriate" amount of doctors that would be able to graduate from medical school...no more and no less than what they deemed appropriate. Well the time has come for them to re-do the math and get on with it...we need more doctors and health care workers...why are they leaving the country and not coming here in droves...everyone else is because of the job openings! It's a vicious circle and this puppy is tired of chasing her tail!

I completely understand. I think the healthcare system around the world is in drastic need of improvement. The problem we have is that they've started looking at the bottom line instead of the needs of the patient, so the patient gets left out in the cold. Britain's public healthcare system seems to rely on waiting lists (which you have to wait for a long time to get on the waiting list) and fobbing patients off to 'doctor nurses.' Kinda like here in the U.S. It's impossible to get a same-day appointment - if you're lucky, you can get an appointment in three days if you're really sick. For a new patient appointment, it can be three months. Sounds like the same situation in Canada.
