Years to show

How many years after you had your first ms sx were you still able to walk without a limp?

For example, I could walk normal for about two years before I started showing a limp.

Im not diagnosed with MS (not anything yet) but I know with whatever I'm going through, I have limped in April due to my left hip feeling like its dislocated, decreased sensation (felt like it was dead),  hard to weight bear on that leg when its like that and forces my foot to go inward at times (like pigeon toed).  This causes me to drag my left foot and limp due to the pain.  It finally went away but returned a few days ago and now limping again.  So that's twice now.

I'm looking forward to my Physical Therapy.

I can remember MS sx over 30 years before my dx. My limp is due to weak hip flexors and general fatigue which varies. Many times I do not walk with a limp but have been ordered to use a cane due to vertigo.

No fatigue! I am so jealous! I would gladly limp if I could just get through the day not being exhausted!

I was diagnosed ten years ago and thankfully have not acquired a limp, or problems with fatigue. The MS journey is going to be different for everyone.

I went into a flare right after my DX and developed and major limp due to a very week left leg. My gait is really normal now but sometimes if I am fatigued or depending on the weather I will limp.

I was in a wheelchair 6 months after my symptoms began.  My circumstances are very rare, to end up in a wheelchair so quickly.  My difficulty walking was one of my first symptoms, too.  I had bilateral footdrop almost immediately. I was put in braces right away, but my legs continued to falter.  I walk a bit around my home, but use a chair everywhere else except physical therapy.

I think my symptoms started about 15 years ago.  I'm still walking and most of the time have few problems with walking.  Sometimes, though, I have problems with numbness or pain and I do have problems and cannot walk well at all.  I will also have trouble with spasticity and cannot walk very long/far.  I guess the problems started about five years ago with this.

I was limpy quite a few years before diagnosis.

Sad thing was, I never realized it until Neuro told me. (Some people are always the last to know...:))

Over 30 years. My walking took 45 years to really be noticeable. Now standing is harder than walking.

My symptoms started 5 years ago; dx'ed nearly 4 years ago.  My walking has not been affected.

I have been limping now on and off for the past 3 months. For me it has never really gone away since first symtoms. Some days no one can tell and other days I slowly shuffle along like the grey haired old timer that I am.

I think you'll find MS is so individual that its too hard to map into a comon time line, there is some research that is indicating fatigue is possibly one of the earliest sx. I can't recall anything regarding a timeline for a 'limp' though there is a lot of early research putting 20 years before wheelchair but that is way before DMD's so its no longer valid.

Personally one of my earliest sx was unexplained bouts of fatigue and that was almost 10 years before i first started walking like a string puppet, i went from walking fine to string puppet so no limp as such but a very weird way to walk.

Cheers..........JJ

I was dx in 2009 and one of my first symptoms was not being able to walk a straight line. I really can only take a few steps before I start to veer off to one side. There isn't a limp for me.
