My daughter, age 48,dx. FSGS 2yrs. ago She was going down hill fast. She started Acthar 15 months ago. BCBS refused to pay. The pharma. company gave the drug to her.She is now in uncharted waters. She is a special ed teacher, works 3 hrs. daily.I am a retired RN,with certification in psy.So I have observed first hand the effects of Acthar.MY dau. is staying in stage 3 of renal failure. The spilling of protein has slowly gone down. She walks 2 miles daily.,has a supportive family, and a therapy dog named Obie, who gives her reason to get up everyday. Her face has swelling, with redness, but other wise she is skinny. She is rigorous with her renal diet(this is a must).I have noticed her moods can be touchy. This is one thing I have found that we as her support group can control from our end.Ignore it by thinking what she has gone thru.We can do this. Also we have noted that on two occasions she probably received meds that were on the shelf too long, and not as effective (just like proloid was to us older ones who took it for thyroid) That came from pig thyroid. As you know Acthar comes from the pig adernal. The day after the injections she takes Benadryl She takes sleep med.thank, mom
Thanks for sharing your experience with Acthar. I hope it keeps working for you. I. Didn't know it was being used for kidney failure. Be well, Laura
Hi my name is Robin. I was diagnosed with FSGS about a year ago. I was on prednisone for about 4/5 months. I've been blessed to where my insurance covers my Acthar treatment. It took a while and after meeting our $2500 deductible, I started receiving the viles. I'm to chicken to inject myself so I go to my DR office twice a week for injections, M & F. Almost completed my 4th month, no side affects, blood pressure is amazingly low, my diabeties is near non exsistant (A1C 5.2)... It's a 6 month treatment for me and so far the outlook is great. Good luck on your journey.
Keep us updated on how it goes for you. :)
Glad to hear it went well! Awfully thick isn't it??
UPDATE!!
hi Guys!
I took the first shot this morning around 9am. It was painful (im a chicken for pain) but, i have not had side effects that i am worried about. Just got a little bit of chills and felt tired (maybe not the med afterall) but, i am at work.

I recently went to a Questcor sponsored discussion about this product. I am happy to see some more first hand experiences with it.
JB, you will love it. Yes, you will be able to work (unless you body works differently than mine). I found it so much easier than IVSM...I have no bad effects from it.
Here's hope!
I'm not sure how often it can be done..I did 2 cycles within a month. Then we lost our insurance, so those little vials of gold are out of my future for the moment!! And yes, any improvement, no matter how long, is always good.
Thank you! I am looking fwd to it. 3-4 months? i will take that :)
I replied to another post on this earlier, so apologize for the repeat info.
I did 2 rounds of Acthar, 7 days each, and thought it was fabulous! Results lasted about 3-4 months for me, which is a good thing. No real side effects, maybe a little facial flushing, but that's it.
Make sure you take it out of the fridge 20-30 minutes before you try to pull it out of the vial. It is thick and nasty and will take a little while to draw it up, as well as inject.
Good luck! I hope you have good results.
