checking on those of you in OZ???

It has been awfully quiet from down under these days and we are seeing television pictures of horrific flooding - the scope of which I can't begin to imagine.

I hope all of our family down there is high and dry.  check in when you can, Lulu

Nonny, ABC news reckons stock up on water - in case the tap water gets contaminated. So start filling those drink bottles! And your bathtub....just in case.

Hi Jemma,

I'm in Morningside, which is above the '74 flood level so should remain safe. The neighbouring suburbs of Norman Park, Coorparoo, Bulimba are all getting rather wet. I tried to shop for a few things at the supermarket yesterday and there was no water, bread, milk, fruit or veges left at all. I'm so pleased I did my big shop earlier in the week, as I have food for 2 weeks here unless the power goes out.

If it weren't for the tv and internet, I'd look out my window onto my dry street on this sunny day sand have no idea of the drama unfolding just kilometres down the road.

THIS IS WHAT JEMMAUS POSTED ON THE OTHER THREAD - I've moved a copy here so everyone can see what they are facing..

well....Udkas is currently on holidays in Queensland, where it's all floody.

I lived up there for 5 years, just returned to the Sane South (as I call it) 12 months ago.  Firstly understand that Qld is 666876 square miles, so  about 3 times the size of Texas. 75% of Qld is flooded.

Most of Qld is underpopulated / rural / outback,  and the towns that have been flooded up until now have faired quite well, considering.

But in the last 48 hours that changed with a major flash flood occurring in Toowoomba, a rural town in the mountains west of Brisbane. There are lots of deaths and dozens missing from that area.

Youtube clip

That water has moved east into the Lockyer Valley, destroying a few small towns:

That water has now moved east again and is in the Brisbane river system. The cities of Ipswich and Brisbane are facing their worst flooding sincethe 1890s.

My entire  extended family live up there, all are ok though at this point. At least the water is rising slowly giving people time to evacuate.

It sounds like anyone who has a square foot of dry land in the affected areas is going to need to let others use it.... that water just keeps rising.  I'll hope for sunshine for all of you, and soon!

Brisbane swamped as floodwaters rise

Brisbane is preparing for the full impact of its worst flooding in more than 100 years, with officials warning almost 20,000 homes in the city will be flooded by early tomorrow morning.

Swathes of the Queensland capital and the nearby city of Ipswich will be submerged by floodwaters which have already claimed the lives of 10 people.

A huge tide of brown water is surging down the swollen Brisbane River as authorities continue to release water from the overloaded Wivenhoe Dam.

The crisis is expected to be at its worst about 4:00am tomorrow morning, when the flood peak in Brisbane is expected to touch 5.5 metres, slightly higher than the city's 1974 flood peak.

Hey Annonny, what suburb are you in? I was in Strathpine up until 12 months ago - but have family near the river from Ispwich to the Valley...

Thanks Lulu,

It's all a bit surreal watching it unfold in the suburbs right next to us, but we are thankful that we have our own safety, and have offered our house and yard (with tent!) to anyone who needs shelter.

My Dad may yet have to evacuate his home and move to higher ground (within the same suburb), but won't be able to get to me because the roads to his house are cut off.

Udkas and Jemm - it is good to hear from you and I'm glad you are not personally affected by the floods.  Those poor people who were - I've done flood cleanup on a very small scale from a creek overflowing banks and flooding a home but nothing like this.  I know what a mess that was with just a foot of water and muck to move.

take care. L

you might want to start your question as a new thread instead of being part of this discussion about flooding in Australia - many people won't see your question here.  be well, Lulu

Your Doctor could help you with your pain management, I have a lot of pain with my TM, which is similar to MS and I have Gabapentin and it helps heaps, but there are things like amitriptilyine (spelt tht wrong) that can help you etc., the Dr might have to experiment to what dose and what drug can help you, but pain management is important as when you have lots of pain it can then lead on to depression, pain is a huge part of my symptoms, I feel for you, but go back to your Dr and WHINGE and WHINE, see what he/she can do.
I feel so much better for being on MEDS it has improved the quality of my life.
Cheers,
UDkas

Hi Laura,
Where I live we have not been affected by the floods, but parts of Queensland and NSW have been affected to the extent where entire towns have been evacuated.

My heart goes out to those affected, I feel for the loss of homes and damage caused by the floods, especially the poor farmers who have lost their entire crop, this type of damage for the farmers is not covered by insurance as it is classed as an act of god. Not only would they have had their house flooded but there income is affected too.  In the long run it will trickle down into the Aussie economy and have a flow on affect.  The clean up for the floods would be horrendous too.  We have had so much rain!

So for those on this forum affected by the flooding my heart and prayers go out for you and your families.
Thanks Laura for thinking of us.  (also because it is our summer lots of people are holidaying.

This isn't a new symptom but it is getting so bad wonder if any of.u experience this and know of ways to get relief. I feel like there's a little man inside my legs shocking me over and over from the inside. It seems to be especially bad at night and is really disrupting sleep. Last night it was so bad that today my legs r sore. I have told my neurologist and his answer was that its part of ms and not much to be done about it.
