Hi there! My name is Rena and I have MS and TN. Some people here know me from a few years back. I have been struggling with TN for about 8 years now. You certainly can have ear pain related to TN and I feel for you...it just flipping hurts!
Laura is right to point you to your neurologist. Seizure meds are what are generally started with for your pain. TN pain will not usually respond to anaelgesics so Tegretol is the number 1 pick followed by meds that will complement it such as Gabapentin, Topamax etc. You will often be prescribed an antidepressant as it complements them as well, aiding in pain relief.
I don't want to get too far ahead until you see your neuro and get a positive diagnosis for TN. I wish you well and please get back to us after you see your neuro!
Lots of Hugs,

I have severe ear and facial pain that is thought to be TN related. It's mostly under control with Gabapentin but does flare up really badly when I get even the slightest bit warm. Initially I was treated with Doxepin and Tegretol, which together worked really well and were more effective than the Gabapentin but the Doxepin made my already horrible fatigue, worse.
Ooh, TN is terrible... I've been really lucky that it hasn't been worse.
Back of mouth pain with ear pain sounds like your soft palate is experiencing neuropathic pain. That particular bit of flesh is around the inner ear, and all through the back of the throat.
I had TN on my ear, and treated it with lidocaine cream. Just a bit rubbed on the painful spot really helped. With soft palate pain, you're going to have to find something stronger that you can swallow.
Yes, Trigeminal neuralgia can certainly create ear pain and that can come from ms. I would suggest you talk to your neuro to see if there are other treatment options your might try. We have had some people here with serious TN pain that couldn't find relief, and perhaps they will see this message.
i'm glad you found us here. - laura
