hip pain...tight muscles??

just wondering if anyone has experienced this and can tell me what it may be

after i have been sitting for  a while, such as driving etc.  when i go to get up i feel like my body wont straighten out...like my hips dont want to move and i have to double over again to make the pain stop and then i have to straighten my back up very slowly to avaoid it getting worse...after i have straightned up and taken a few steps it generally feels better...every now and then if i move or pivot quickly thos hips will tighten and i have to stop and bend over and move more slowly...is this muscle spasms or what???  any suggestions...do i just need to stretch out my hips?

i am NOT officially disgnosed with MS...yet.

thanks,

I have not been diagnosed just yet, just one of the possibilities, I have noticed this a lot in the last couple months, never thought to consider it one of the symptoms, the pain can be excruciating. Doing anything that requires squatting causes this pain also (like a bad cramp in the hip).

I am Dx, and I do the same thing.  It just started about a month ago.  I had mri's done over a year ago, and I had no visible leasions in the spine, they were all in the brain.  I have been wondering if my MS has progressed, or what exactly is going on.  I am due to have a checkup soon. If I find out anything, I will let you know.

I'm sorry you are having this problem, but am happy to know that I am not alone in this.  I've had this problem for years and it can be extremely painful.  I'll be sitting and go to stand up and take a step and my hip hurts so bad that I sometimes start to cry.  I've noticed that it mostly occurs after I've been sitting, never lying down.  I've only had it occur a few times when actually walking. I'll go to turn and it is like my hips/leg don't react fast enough.  I've almost fallen because of it.  Usually after a few steps it is better.

I even had one dr tell me that it was age related.  Not even 40 at the time.  What a jerk.

Glad to know I'm not crazy.  Oh, and I've had this problem off and on for a good 10 years.

Yup, sounds like you're describing spasticity.  I have the same problem - when I first start moving, I'm really stiff, then I get more flexible as I keep going.

I would recommend some careful stretching of your problem areas.

I am dx....and get the same thing. I drive a mini van, and after sitting for a little while and getting out, my hips kill. Like you said, straightening up is the worse, then after I get going it is better. Actually, it is the same if I stay sitting anywhere too long.

My nephew is getting married in July, my husband is going to drive up with the kids and let me fly. I just don't think I could handle the 18 hour drive.

Best of Luck to you.
