how long is long enough?

This is only the second day on Cymbalta. But I can't live like this. Ever since I took is yesterday I've felt like throwing up and if I move around or even think of food I heave. I am hot and cold, then cold and hot.

Last night I got very heavy legs and arms and felt so "weird" like the doctor warned. I was seeing, but it was as though i was far away. I didn't sleep hardly at all because I felt so nauseated. I feel so awful today. The same things, and I'm carrying my bucket with me everywhere, and only eating tiny bits of things becuase I can't keep stuff down.

I can't think, much less talk, and I find myself just sitting and staring. I feel nothing. I hate this. So, do I have to stay on this? I can't function.

My eyes were very dilated, even in sunny light. I didn't take it Sunday or today, and I'm feeling much better!!! That is the end of that medicine... it was absolutely awful!!!! The eyes dilation effect lasted a long time, almost 48 hours.

I still wonder why that medicine did that?

I feel sooo happy today, much better, so much more like myself! Hooray!

Sunny, are your eyes popping out of your head, or are they just really dilated?  I remember Quix talking about the steroid taper - if you don't taper off steroids, you get some harsh reactions, including the bulging eyes.

I don't know anything about this medicine, but I had some kind of reaction in 2006 when my SSRI was switched abruptly without a taper!!  The switch was from Zoloft which I had been on for 14 years, to Paroxetine. The new doctor also abruptly took me off of Xanax that I had been taking for eight months at one .25mg once daily!

His reason for changing my meds( which were working fine) was that he didn't want me on this very low dose of xanax!!!  This change was six weeks before the onset of the neurological attack I had in April 2006. I was convinced that the Paroxetine had something to do with my vision going whacky, as I had never had anything like this happen before, even being on the Zoloft for 14  years.

The vision dysfunction and my depression(that had been gone for 10 years) and also the anxiety plunged out of control within two weeks.  This is what led me to the optho and neuro, where they found the visual field defect(which is on Paroxetine side effects sheet) and the 10 white matter brain lesions on MRI!!!

For two years I have been asking all of my doctors if this medication switch or the paroxetine is what started this whole thing, and eventhough they have let things slip out that have made me think that they suspect it, they will not document it!  There reply is simply,  It has never been documented in the medical literature with this medication!!

All I know is I was fine the whole 14 years I was on the Zoloft and the very low dose of Xanax at bedtime had completely stopped my panic attacks in my sleep.  Six weeks after this   switch all of this neurological stuff happened suddenly, and I had never had any neurological problems prior!

I stopped the Paroxetine abruptly when my vision went haywire, and this was not a good idea, because it made it worse. Then there were three medications that I was withdrawing from. But the doctor refused to change me back to Zoloft, and I knew this medication was making me blind, so I stopped it on my own.

Much later, and after becoming very sick and hospitalized twice, I finally found a private Physciatrist, who immediately put me back on the Zoloft and the Xanax.  Within three weeks all of the depression, anxiety and emotional symptoms stabalized, but the vision and neurological damage was still there.

For the last two years I have been slowly healing and have a DX of ADEM, and being watched for MS.

I wrote all of this, not to scare you,but in hopes that you would be able to see that these medications can and do cause severe side effects and the reactions need to be taken very seriously!!     If your body is reacting this way then there is a reason.  Talk to your doctor and make sure he does something and doen't ignore it and say it is unheard of, the way my doctor did!!

The reason my reaction was so severe could be because I had been on the Zoloft for 14 years and the doctor did not taper it down and started the Paroxetine at too high of a dose the very next day!

How long have you been on this medicine?

I think I'm going to hold of on today's dose and call the doctor tomorrow.

My eyes are dilated, I asked my mom why I feel so bug-eyed and she said they are dilated very wide.

My stomach aches, and I still feel like throwing up, I can't remember it feeling this bad for a long time.

I think this medicine isn't for me. Hopefully once I stop it this awfulness will go away. It is capsules so I can't half it.

I felt sooo much better before I went on the medicine. (grin)

Hi,
I am on Cymbalta and have never had any of these symptoms - are you sure you are not supposed to stop the medication if you get such a severe reaction?  I have also taken Zoloft in the past and had the nausea but never to the extent that you are experiencing.

This reaction you are having does not sound normal to me - it sounds like your body chemistry and Cymbalta are not a good match.  Can you call doctor or just stop it until you talk to him/her?

Sorry you feel so lousy!!

Hi, Sunny~

I'm sorry you're not feeling well.  Starting a new medication can be awful.  Why don't you call your pharmacist (or any 24 hr pharmacy if yours is closed at this time on the weekend) and tell her or him what side effects you're having and what they recommend, since it's the weekend,a nd you don't want to call your doc until Monday.

Maybe you can take half doses for a while, or skip every other day until you get used to the med.  Or the pharmacist may tell you the medicine may not be for you.

Feel better!
