lung problems

I am told I own the unwanted record of being the oldest "first time" diagnosed MS person. (78 years old) I have, in the last couple of months developed a lung condition that is very difficult for me. My lungs have become a thick, clear mucus factory. It keeps me awake at night and nothing seems to help. I am on a nebulizer 3 time daily. I have tried a couple of oral medications without success. I would appreciate any thoughts on the subject.

    thanks,  Cushaw

HVAC & PD,

I have read where MS can effect the lungs. Like many other problems with muscles MS can weaken the muscles for breathing and coughing.

Cushaw,

In your case I am wonder if that may be the reason that you are having these problems with your lungs. As in your muscles are too weak to realy clear your lungs so you keep having this mucus in your lungs that you can clear up. I would talk to your doctor to see if this is the case, and then maybe a solution could be found.

My first thought was: "Hmmm.  Clear thin mucous could mean asthma."   [Insert usual disclaimers here.]  I'm with Alex; I've not heard of lungs being afffected by MS.  If Dr. Quix or possibly Mary were around, they might maybe could explain why, but either way it's time to call the PCP.

I have not heard of lung problems as a part of MS. I have asthma and have to see a pulmanologist. I take symbicort and albuterol.

Alex.
