nuvigil

I just started taking nuvigil. Does anyone know how long before it works or if it is worth the extreme price.

CephalonCares Foundation is the name of the program.  I HIGHLY recommend looking into it, it's as simple as filling out your portion of the application, your doc fills out the other part and then hopefully you are approved.  I had good insurance when I was approved AND had a good job, so it's worth trying.  My medication comes right to my house, I don't even have to call for the refills.

I hope that helps...  Good luck.

Oh, and like somebody else had said about doubling the dose, I don't know how much you take, but I take 200 mg of provigil twice a day, so make sure you are taking enough before you give up on it.

Good luck.

The pharmaceutical company that makes these two drugs (nuvigil and provigil) has a program that your neurologist should have the application for to help you pay for the prescription.  I will try to find out what the name of it is (I am on it).  I ended up getting my provigil for free.

I will look and hopefully post back later today!

It should work from the first dose but (like all drugs) will probably take a little getting used to.  Sometimes doctors will have you take a half dose to begin.  This isn't one of those drugs that you can feel kicking in.  It's effects are subtle so you may not realize how well it's working until you notice something like you haven't taken a nap for a few days.

I used to take Provigil but switched over to Nuvigil within the past year because it seems to keep working a little longer.  It was originally prescribed for me as part of treatment for sleep apnea in 2007, two years before I was diagnosed with MS.

For me, this drug is well worth the price when I am awake (and alert) for the entire 45 minute drive to work in the afternoon.  It is priceless when I'm still awake for the long drive home past midnight.

Like Ojibajo, I find it easier to get through the day when taking Nuvigil.  It used to take a good deal of effort just to keep my eyes open.  Deliberate concentration was required if I had to actually think.

You should know soon if the price is worth it in your case.  I hope it works out for you.

I take provigil which I think is similar. It made me sick for the first week and ad the end of the first week I felt pretty good. They did double the dose and that has made a huge difference. It's not that I don't ever get tired or I never have fatigue but I can get through the day now.
