off topic - Delaware

I can't recall if there are any reg members here who live in or near Delaware.  If not I am guessing at least a few have been there?  I have not, but am considering going at the end of Sept with my husband who is going to New Castle to hear a band.  Not sure if I'll go to the show, it's HEAVY heavy metal.   But I'd rather tag along on the trip if I'm feeling up to it, than hang out here alone.  Can anyone can recommend a nice hotel, preferably in a non-sketchy area, I guess in the New Castle/Wilmington area or whatever else might be feasible by cab to New Castle?

My goal is to hit all 50 states plus DC in my lifetime - I've got 30 under my belt so far.  This will be a chance to hit Delaware, and DC which has been at the top of my list for a while.

Also any sightseeing recommendations?

Now, back to your regular programming. ;-)

Thanks all for the great suggestions, I will look into the Christiana area and definitely the Wyeth museum, that sounds great.  I think we will do one night there and 2-3 in DC.  We are booking our flights today.  Excited!

Hey Db,

Definitely take Jen up on those suggestions - I was going to say Christiana as well. I'm more familiar w/south/east DE and MD - closer to the inlet and beaches. That would be way too far south from Wilmington.

Depending on which way you come down - hit me up! Meet you roadside, lol

forgot to mention!!  An easy drive from New Castle / Christiana is the Brandywine River Museum...  if you like Andrew Wyeth or any of the Wyeth family art, it is an absolute must see.   The area is generally considered the home to Andrew Wyeth and there are even tours where you can see much of the landscape and even buildings (like Kuerners farm) that he painted.

And the museum itself is like going to a retreat to relax, its one of my favorite places in PA (but I also have half a dozen Wyeth prints in my home).  The museum is set on the Brandywine river and is located in an old mill type building.  Its beyond peaceful and beautiful.

I lived in DE for a short time when I first left Baltimore to work in PA (was a halfway point between home and work with having a 2-1/2 year old!).

If you stick around Christiana, you'll be fairly safe.  I know they have a really nice Hilton.  If you don't mind being about 15 miles out, there is a wonderful B&B in Elkton, MD called Elk Forge Inn and Spa.

Site seeing....  well, it's northern DE, what do you want to see :) ?   I personally would go a bit further up 95 to the PA line and spend a day in Brandywine / Chadds Forge especially if you are a history buff.  If you want some info on hotels there, let me know.

Hope you enjoy your trip!

I don't think I'll be much help here.  I usually put New Castle in Pennsylvania and Wilmington in North Carolina.

You are one traveling woman DV!  I'm not sure I could say I've driven THROUGH thirty of our states in my lifetime.  I did spend an entire day trying to drive across Texas once.  It didn't get me anywhere close to where I wanted to be but it did get me a speeding ticket.

I'm sure someone from the Atlantic coast will be along to show you where to have a good time.
