this is an odd one re parasthesia, but it scared me last night

I had a very odd experience in the bathroom last night, and have been in such a mess all day that all I have done is sleep and missed an appointment.  Feel really bad actually.

Last night I went to the toilet before going to bed.  I then jolted, realising I must have fallen asleep, who knows for how long.  I tried to get up but both my legs were entirely dead, such that all I succeeded in doing was throwing myself onto the floor.  There was no sensation in either of them at all.  I managed to drag myself up into a sitting postition, then using strength I no longer thought I had dragged myself to standing, to get the blood flowing in my legs again.  I was just stuck leaning helplessly over the sink waiting for my legs to waken, with the excrutiating pain that accompanies this. Their was no pins and needles sensations like normally happens when a limb falls asleep.

After ages they started to feel again, and the pain settled enough for me to try moving, but I couldn't walk, as I had lost all control over where my legs landed and they could not take me putting weight on them.  It improved over time, but it was an hour or so before they came back to normal again, the insides of them felt icy, and my balance was gone.  I ended up sleeping in the lounge, just about falling onto the sofa there as I couldn't walk.

I can only assume that I blacked out in the toilet for some time, and put unacceptable pressure on the nerves.  But today I have been really in bad shape, sleeping constantly.  My legs are okay, but the general pain is worse than normal, and I am mentally disorientated, thinking it was the weekend.  Just woken up again and taken more pain relief, but already feel the need to sleep again, having slept on and off for about 18 hours now.

Am very sure I am anaemic, have had it so many times I recognize the symptoms in an instant, but this leg falling asleep episode was the worst I have ever had.  And if I blacked out on the toiltet, why did I not fall over or something?  This is a first, any ideas?

Without knowing too much, I would say your numbness was due to you being on the pot for so long.  However, the reason you passed out is a mystery to me!  If you're feeling so bad that you passed out or fell asleep on the toilet, it would explain why you feel so badly today.

Wish,
I'm just wondering if you keep a log of your medicines, dosages and when you take them?  Yes, you have lots of expertise but have you had your pharmacist, or whatever you call the legal drug dealers over there, look at a complete list of your meds and make sure you don't have some serious conflicts going on?  It might be helpful but what do I know?  Do you realize I have now asked four questions straight without saying anything?  LOL

Thanks for trying.  Yes I was awake when I went in.  Because of my bladder problems I can spent a long, long time on the pan and never had this happen before.  Definitely blacked out.
Just having a horrible day today.  Between sleeping and crying for no good reason now my legs are cramping up very badly.  I've been eating badly all week and last so wondering if it's a nuitritional thing, plus ran out of glucosamine a fortnight ago and that helps a lot.  Also re-read the patient leaflet on my antibiotics I finished and apparently side-effects can emerge weeks after you've stopped them.  They are top strength and I was taking double the recommended dose for a week.  Maybe they messed me up more than I thought.

Do not ever want to experience that again.  Glad you answered though.  Need to know someone cares as am feeling pathetically sorry for myself right now.  Left leg just gone into spasm, morphine and valium not touching it.  They just get to work on the regular pains.  Glad I'm off work right now.

Had leg pain on and off since my twenties, such a big area to hurt.  For some reason it makes me tearful when it's bad, maybe it reminds me of being disabled.  I know it was only probably a bad case of legs falling asleep, but suddenly having to drag myself along the bathroom floor by my arms was not my proudest moment.  Will forget about the incident by tomorrow but right now feeling rough.  Tried phoning for help that night but when they didn't answer straight away got irritable and threw the phone away.  Not a happy bunny today.

Talking of bunnies.  Strange dreams.  Dreamt I bought a rabbit!  Also dreamt I was in an impossible sitation and ran into a grand old house, with two staircases.  A woman came up to me and said one staircase contained the future at the top, the other the path to reach that future.  Psychoanalysis expert anybody?  Felt the woman was reassuring me there was a future, but I could choose whether to know it or not.

Need to sort out some financial stuff, maybe do that before I sleep again, will at least be something accomplished with the day.

Oh Wish, What a horrible feeling that must be.  I have to confess I have dozed off before while sitting on that throne, but its been because I have not quite awakened and got there in semi-concious state. Its only happened afew times and I don't think its related to ms in my case.

But you went in there awake, correct?  Do you have any idea how long you were there?

When I did my prep for my colonoscopy I sat on the toilet for hours - well at least it seemed like hours! - and when I tried to stand up my legs were dead asleep.  The angle of the seat and where it hit on my thighs caused the problem.  Perhaps that is yours as well?

If you combine the effects of your drugs with this problem perhaps that can explain the extreme episode?  You know I'm grasping for an answer that might partly satisfy you............

My best, Lulu
