visual symptom...?

hello everyone!

i've been experiencing something a bit strange over the last two days and am curious if this at all could be a bit of optic neuritis kicking in.

it almost feels as if i've got a migraine coming on...for anyone who has experienced the "aura" beforehand.  i don't get the floaters but the top right of my peripheral vision, rt. eye only, seems to be blurred and is particularily noticeable when i am reading or focusing on something close to my face.

me being loopy and over analyzing, or does this sound familiar to anyone?  i don't think it could be migraine related...it's lasted too long and no headache has been produced.  hmmm?

thanks in advance!!

thanks jemm!

your post cracks me up...i know we all do that from time to time, but it's particularily funny when typing! lol!!! glad you didn't just abort the post though!!

thanks so much and i will keep that in mind  for sure.  the more i have read about it, i don't think this is ON but it sure has me curious.  funny thing is when things are blurry i've been trying to close one eye and then the other to see which one is causing the problem, but it clears right up as long as i'm looking only out of one eye.  i wonder if this could have something to do with the way i'm combining the two visual inputs??

thanks again jemm for the laugh and the info!

To throw in another possible - I had an incident about 6 years ago where I woke up and I thought at first i had muck in my eye, as it was all sort of cloudy, but no.....then I thought, OH CR*P, another bushfire, because when I looked out the window it looked like a smoke haze.. but it was only in my left eye.

It got progressively worse so i trotted off to the Dr who sent me to the Opthamologist who did his thing and delclared it to be ...........oh LOL I forget. Hang on..........oh dear...

Umm, something like collapsing vitreous jelly thingo at the back of the eye, almost like the beginnings of retinal detachment.  Sorry I have completely forgotten the correct term!

Anyway it resolved in about 48 hours.....

Just another possible thing it could be to add ot the mix!

thanks katie,

great tip about the colour blindness tests...i did a few and my colour vision seems fine, so perhaps this is not ON?  i'll see if it persists and if need be go in and see someone about it.

That's exactly how my ON started.  I have frequent migraines with auras (no headaches - just the aura) so I thought that was what was going on.  The only difference was the blurry stuff was white instead of multi-colored like my usual aura.  After a few hours, I knew that it wasn't an aura and something else more serious was going on.  One thing that was a sure sign that it was ON, was when I tested for color blindness.  I found some sites on line that had the tests.  Good luck.

HA HA HA I was so wrong, I just looked it up and it says that pereheral vision loss can be cause by optic neuritis. So scaratch everything I said up above except for the migraine issue and the last paragraph lol

Still the dork,

Michelle,

I really don't know what could be causing this. I believe that with ON your perepheral vision isn't affected, but I could be wrong. I am just trying to remember what my sister has told me. She has ON and it caused her to go almost blind in her left eye but her peripheral vision is ok. And I am pretty sure I read somewhere that it doesn't affect your peripheral vision. But once again, I could just be losing my mind lol

I also know that you can have complicated migraines without pain. Not sure if this is any help at all but it is all I know lmbo

I hope you start feeling better and I am sure more people will chime in and you will get more clear about what is going on. Either way you may want to get your eyes checked out to be sure it isn't something that needs attention.

Hugs,
Paula
