All the sudden, I get a weird taste in my mouth. Then the numbness on the right side of my face starts. It spreads from my forehead down to my lip and chin. Anyone have this happen to them?
This could be a cranial autonomic nerve problem, or a simple idiopathic condition called Bell's Palsy, which is a unilateral face numbness, sometimes accompanied by taste changes. Most causes are bening, but you should definitely ask for a head MRI.
By the way, does that pain feel metallic? (that's common in Bell's Palsy. If it feels different, that doesn't point specifically to anything sinister either).
In this special Missouri Medicine report, doctors examine advances in diagnosis and treatment of this devastating and costly neurodegenerative disease.
