ALS SYMPTOMS - SCARED

Dear Doctors,

This is my question. For the past two years, gotten a little worse over this time period, I have had the following symptoms:
Leg pain and weird feelings in legs - legs feel like they are cold, and weak with muscle twiching in the knees, thighs and calves. It is worse when I am sitting down then when I am moving around
Muscle cramps in hands and feet and arms
When standing still, feels like I need to sit down but balance is fine
I can run on a regular basis, climb stairs, workout without any weakness or tripping.

I had an EMG done in April 2007 and I have having a MRI on May 2 2008. Th EMG results came back normal:  he said I had VERY minor abnormalities but nothing to worry about.

I saw a neuro dr which didnt think I had ALS since there were no signs of atrophy or muscle weakness. What could be going on? is it MS? I am really scarwd since it has been going on for so long and gotten mildly worse. I am a little comforted by the fact that I can still do day-to-day activities. It feels like a dense vibrating feeling in my calves and knees. The weakness is mild like I said but I need for it to be resolved. I am scared it could progess further. Is it 2 years without serious weakness a sign that it isnt ALS or MS???

Please help.

Thanks, Jake

Hi,

How are you?
You have not mentioned about MRI report, was it normal?
There is a possibility that your symptoms are due to fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is characterized by muscle weakness and twitching.
In some patients with fibromyalgia vitamin D levels were found to be low. Such patients showed radical improvement in symptoms after Vitamin D supplements.
Regular exercise, massaging the affected muscles and nutritional supplements will help.
Please discuss this possibility with your treating doctor. Keep us posted!

Yes,for as long as I have been dealing with this my lower leftside hurts badly when I am trying to sleep but before all this it was my lower back. A cat scan showed that I had to bulging disks but after changing my working habbits that caused it, it has felt much better. But my side is worse. Go figure.

Count me in! Been like that way off and on for a while but notably worse the past 3 or 4 weeks. I was actually put into hospital a week ago and given IV steroids. It seemed to help quite a bit but Yesterday it started rearing its ugly head again!

Do either of you have the low back pain/strain and rib area hurt/soar/fell constricted??
Thanks in advance for the replies :)

Not sure if anyone really helps on this forum or doctors for that mater. But you seem to have the same problems that i do. Maybe we can compare notes to figure this out.Just after a year ago my legs started with the feeling of being cold then my calve muscles started twiching soon after. Now my feet and legs twitch constantly and have a vibration feeling in them much worse in my left foot. My calve muscles hurt constantly now and getting worse. I need some relief soon. Please comment. I can tell you what I think couldhave caused this .Maybe yours too.
