Hi!
AVM is a vascular malformation. As the name suggests it involves both arteries and veins. There is abnormal connection between the two with more arteries and veins in an area or arteries and veins which are abnormally placed. AVM are often harmless. However, large AVMs and those in brain often require treatment.
The treatment depends on the type of malformation. There are four main types of treatments that are often used in combination with one another. Treatment can vary from careful observation, to radiosurgery, to open surgical resection and even endovascular embolization. Please discuss with your treating doctor. Take care!
