Another scan?

Hi

I went to see a consultant four weeks ago on Thursday regarding headache's and a non-existant smoke smell. The appointment was booked at the beginning of May, but by the time I went to see the consultant the symptoms had disappeared (which they still have, I can't say I've experienced them that much in the past two and a half months).

Basically I went for an MRI last Thursday and was told I will be sent back to the consultant for the results (which I haven't heard anything from as of yet). But today I got a call from the hospital stating that the consultant wants me to go for another test now, but I didn't catch the name of the test when the person mentioned it over the phone, all that I can remember is being told it is something to do with 'electrodes on the head' or something along those lines. Could anyone tell me what this test is, and what is it for?

I asked was it anything to do with the results from my MRI and the person on the phone said 'no' and that it is just another, different test.

Thanks for your help.

Best regards.

It sounds like they want you to have an EEG test. It measures the electrical activity in your brain. Its used to help diagnose disorders with the nervous system. Hope this helps and good luck.....

Hello.

This new test that you have been advised to take is most probably the Electro-encephalogram (EEG). The procedure involves placing various electrodes on strategic points over the scalp. The electrodes catch the electrical activity going on in the brain.

Your consultant is probably looking for any clues as to why you feel (or used to feel) the smell that others could not. It may happen if some specific areas in the brain are not working properly.

EEG is safe will help you and your consultant rule out any such problem in the brain.
