Arachnoid Cyst

Where should I start?

I gave birth to a rather healthy babygirl August 19/06 after an emergency c-section. Once Kira was born she was risked to the intensive care unit. She was bleeding from her head (no doubt from the Dr. poor efforts of trying to deliver her by using the vaccuum, which pulled the skin of her head.) After testing her and monitoring her for 2 days, they told us things were fine and the back of her head would heal.

Four years later...we wound up in the emergency room after my daughter had passed out. She has slept for 18 hours continuosly and didn't budge while the nurses gave her an IV and blood test. Her white blood cell count was elevated but the Dr. was not concerned. After three more episodes I demanded that further tests be done on my daughter. A sleep-deprived EEG showed abnormal activity on the right side of her brain and an MRI showed the existence of a mass. The neurologists confirmed that it was an arachnoid cyst that Kira was probably born with and told us not to woeey, she would be fine. We asked for a second opinion and were told that Kira most likely suffers from migraines and the cyst was jsut something we found, not a contributing factor. Now almost an year and a half later, Kira still falls asleep and can sleep for many hours.....

I just don't know what else I can do....

I have to admit it makes me a little frustrated to hear your story. We took our 15 year old son to the emergency room because he was having dizzy spells and memory problems. He also sleeps alot during this "down time".  They suspected silent siezures to be the problem so they ordered very extensive MRI's they came back and said he had a fairly large arachnoid cyst and a penial cyst. He didn't have any siezure episodes during the eeg they did so they felt he was just having miagrains. They wouldn't even talk to us about the cysts and only told us after we pushed that they were not related to his problems just an incidental finding. I took him to his pediatritian immediatly and was told the same thing word for word. If you look on the internet there are too many stories all the same. Most of the symptoms are exactly the same..a cyst was found and parents told it was an incidental finding. We have found no help and he continues to have "episodes".I wish you luck and if you find out anything please post it. and don't give up our children deserve an answer.
