Blinging feeling in head with each heartbeat

I have a very serious concern. I have been having a very strange thing happening in my head that wakes me up at night. At first about a year and a half ago when I first noticed it in 1999 or 2000, it only happened occasionally, but it increased in frequency until now it is happening every night and lasting longer.

It is a flashing feeling in my head, NOT in my ears, but in the middle of my head, deep in. It is a

The nocturnal symptom you are describing is probably best termed pulsatile tinnitus. The differential for tinnitus is very broad, and includes inner ear disorders, carotid atherosclerosis, brain aneurysms or vascular malformations, and even masses with the region of the 8th cranial nerve. To evaluate this complaint, it would be reasonable to perform an MRI of the brain with an MR angiogram of the vessels. This will help to exclude all of the scary problems I mentioned above. If all of this is negative, then consultation with an otoneurologist (doctor who is a neurologist with special interest in the ear and vestibular system) would be recommeded. If you are in the area, we are fortunate to have two excellent doctors named John Oas, and Neil Cherian. Good luck.

You might want to look up pseudotumor cerebri.  Are you going to an opthalmologist when you see an eye doctor or an optomotrist?  You need to make sure the eye doc is an MD (opthalmologist).  Another option is a neuro-opthalmologist.  This is a rarer sub-specialty but those doctors can be found at large teaching hospitals.  Do you get lots of headaches also?
Good Luck,
Cyndy

Oh my God this is exactly what I am feeling sometimes and I have a severe case of TMJ (jaw joint clicks).

TMJ is a very severe situation which is caused due to a head injury. Their is a nerve that goes from your neck (one on the left side near the jaw and ears, and one on the right side near the jaw and ears). This nerve supplies your body with 70% of its bloodflow.

This nerve breaks into 3 and travels to the cranium.

Possible symptoms from TMJ:

dizziness / vertigo
vision problems
head conditions
electrical problems in the heart (rapid heart beats)
Jaw clicks
headaches
confusion
bad balance
psychological problems
CROOKED TEETH (CROWDED TEETH)
EARS THAT STICK OUT
FLAT HEAD IN THE BACK
and many other symptoms

Most doctors don't know anything about tmj.

EMAIL ME IF YOU WANT SOME MORE INFO I AM A PATIENT MYSELF AND HAVE BEEN THROUGH HELL ALREADY.

But all you have is TMJ and that is causing your symptoms in my opinion. Seek a TMJ specialist.

"It is a flashing feeling in my head, NOT in my ears, but in the middle of my head, deep in. It is a ?blinnnng, blinnnng, blinnnng? that corresponds with each heartbeat."

Okay, this happened to me today for the first time, and then I remembered you said something about it. It only lasted a few seconds for me, I was in a really bad panicky mood, my blood pressure was up, could any of that be the cause of it? Cause I never experienced that before.

Okay, I don't have any advice as I am having a lot of the same symptoms that the doctors I have seen are still clueless about. I just turned 21. But the thing that stands out to me is that you said you have terrible nightmares on a nightly basis and that is one reason you are afraid to sleep. I also have nightmares every night and am afraid to sleep because of that, but that started happening long before I started to get abnormal head pains/heartbeat/sensations in my arms and legs. Nightmares started over a year and a half ago,(what about yours?) My abnormal neurologic symptoms started this past March.......I don't know if the nightmares thing could be related in any way, but I just thought it was interesting because I hadn't heard anyone else mention that.

If you want to talk further about this, you can email me: ***@****.

Thanks for mentioning TMJ.

I guess I should have mentioned that I DO have TMJ problems, and in fact, I have had problems enough with that, that my jaw locked up about a year ago and I couldn't even get my mouth open enough to insert the dental appliance I was supposed to use.

My mouth would only open one finger breadth. But after about 6 months, my jaw slowly opened more and more until it got to the opening range it was at before that happened. I have a lot of clicking and I have to be careful not to open too wide when I yawn.

I have had head trauma and jaw trauma back in 1990, due to a violent ex-husband.
