Could facial twitching/tightness in cheek be from nerve damage or virus?

I'm wondering if there is anyone with knowledge of neurology and particularly the nerves of the face that could give me some advice.

For the past 3 weeks I have been have strange tightness, sensitivity, and twitching in the left side of my face, in the cheek and lip area. At first I was worried it might be some fatal neuromuscular disease, but I don't have any symptoms that would point to that like muscle weakness or disfunction in the face. So I'm trying to retrace my steps and figure out what else could be causing this. Here's what happened...

A month ago I had a cold. It was a nasty cold, mainly lots of nasal/sinus congestion (I get sinusitis and inflammation with colds fairly often). But this time it only lasted a week. I was then symptom free for about week...

Except I got a nasty pimple just above my left lip, to the left of my nose. It sounds dumb, but I mention it because its near the spot where I am now having these neurological issues in my cheek/lip. I never get pimples, and this one looked a bit infected, so I used tea tree oil. I applied the oil with a q-tip to the area a couple times a day for 3-4 days. It worked well, and the pimple slowly dried up and went away. I was pretty happy that the remedy worked so well. But then this issue started.

Since then I have had this weird sensation that I can only describe as a tightness of the skin, sensitivity of the skin, sometimes like a slight burning sensation, and some subtle twitching of the muscles, all in the area next-to and just below where I had the pimple: the left cheek, left lip corner, and left chin. The sensations make me feel like that side of my cheek/mouth area would look weird, but they do not. There's no drooping or loss of function. Just this bad sensation and occasional twitching.

Because I don't have any symptoms of a neuromuscular disease like weakness or muscle disfunction, I'm wondering if the above history might contain a clue to what's going.

Is it possible that the application of the tea tree oil damaged the nerve in that area? If so, would there be any treatment other than letting it heal? Anyone with knowledge of the facial nerves?

Thanks for your help!
