I too have burning mouth syndrome. Mine started over 11 years ago (I'm 53). Food began to taste differently, and the burning sensation never went away. I remember telling the doctor something was wrong because it felt as though I was constantly eating hot sauce. He had never heard of such a thing and neither had I. I thought maybe I was imagining it. About two years ago, I read that a lot of dental work (those numbing shots) could be the cause. Well, it may have triggered it since I always have to receive two and three shots to numb my mouth prior to dental work. When I shared it with my dentist, he wasn't familiar with it either. I wish there was something to rid this annoying sensation. The bright side is, it hasn't prevented me from eating, but I read to stay away from anything spicy... pepper, peppermint, cinnamon, etc. That is kind of hard.
I ALSO HAVE BURNING MOUTH AND HAVE FOR ABOUT 10 YRS. I AM 61. I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH LICHEN PLANUS. I AVOID SPICEY FOODS AND HAVE TO USE CHILDRENS GLITTER GEL OR BUBBLE GUM TOOTH PASTE BECAUSE I CANNOT USE REGULAR TOOTHPASTE AS IT CAUSES BURNING. AT TIMES IT SEEMS TO FLARE UP WORSE FOR NO REASON BUT EVENTUALLY GOES AWAY. I HAVE JUST LEARNED TO LIVE WITH IT.
I also have burning mouth syndrome. I have had it for about 5 years now and it seems to get better for a while and then worsen again. There is no relief other than HRT, so the Dr. told me. It supposedly comes along with menopause for some lucky women:( I have read that it eventually goes away, but can take 1-? years. I, unfortunately, have not lost any weight from this.
