Burning sensation in cheek after root canal

I had a root canal completed in my upper molar15 days ago and had a fair bit of pain in the tooth and cheek afterwards.  The pain stopped about 10 days ago but I've had a burning sensation in my cheek ever since that sometimes seems to move towards my ear and around my eyebrow.  It's not pain but feels like a mild sun burn.  The feeling comes and goes and is mostly gone when I sleep but gets worse throughout the day.

I'm an anxious person and I think my anxiety is really taking off with this.  My dentist says it can't be related to the root canal so I am going to see an endodontist next week for another opinion.

I've also had some neck pain the last few weeks so maybe it could be that?

Does this sound possible and, more importantly, does it sound like something that will get better?  Compared to some of the face pain stories here it sounds pretty minor but it still ***** and is disrupting my life.

Hi montos,

I also experienced the same sensation in my nose after a root canal on my upper pre-molar. My bottom right nose feels inflamed, dry, etc. like a mild sunburn as you described. When i told my dentist about it she said it might be trigeminal parathesia and it may or may not go away. But i'm not convinced. I think my root canal might be overfilled. Please let me know if you still have the pain, if not, how did you get it treated? any answers will be appreciated. thanks

Hi there!

Well, without a detailed clinical evaluation it would be difficult to determine the cause of your symptoms. Possible causes of the cheek pain include infections, inflammations, ulcers, erosions etc.; while neck pain could be related to postural issues, neuro-muscular causes such as muscle sprain, nerve impingement, injuries to muscles/ ligaments etc inflammations, fractures/ dislocations, referred pain from other regions, micronutrient deficiencies etc. I would suggest getting this evaluated by a primary care physician initially and depending on the cause diagnosed/ suspected, it can be managed accordingly or specialist care may be sought.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
