Buzzing/Vibrating feeling in base of skull?

Hi,
Hopefully someone can give me some insight or suggestion of what this might be; because so far I've found none.
For the last 2-3 months I have felt extremely spaced out and groggy, it feels like I can't wake up. No matter how much sleep I get, exercise, it doesn't make a difference I just feel out of it like I can't fully wake up. On top of that I've been feeling really spacey/floaty and keep getting these 3-5 second buzzing feeling/vibration at the base of my skull/top of my neck. They don't hurt they just make me have to stop what I'm doing and kinda space out. It almost feels like a rush of something that relaxes you, because after I get these I feel crazy numbed out and just plain old out of it more than before. I don't get them very often, maybe once a week at most. I am a 21 year old female. Thanks.

Narcolepsy! i am a 28 year old male who literally just started having the exact symptoms you described about 8 months ago. After several test and doctors visits i was diagnosed with sever narcolepsy, with catalepsy. Its common for the symptoms to come on suddenly between the ages of 15-30. I encourage you to research narcolepsy and if it has the ring of truth go see a neurologist. Also i have been diagnosed with a small pituitary gland tumor witch may be contributing to my symptoms my doctor says unlikely. However i have read numerous reports relating pituitary gland tumors with excessive sleepiness. I also started experiencing the buzzing vibrating sensations you describe at the same time as my other symptoms but have been unable to ascertain the cause and neither have my doctors. I can only think it is related to the narcolepsy, or the tumor. At least its a place to start.

Take a look at this forum.  You might have the same symptoms as many of these people and there are a couple suggestions.  I found it interesting to know others had the same sensations and all around the same age.  I was 17 or 18 when mine started.  Still not sure what it is but have much better idea about possibilities I never even considered which is great since it's gotten much worse in short time.  Doctor bound after the New Year armed with some way of describing what I'm going through.

Hi there!

Well, without a detailed clinical evaluation it would be difficult to determine the cause of your symptoms. Possibilities that may need to be considered include low blood sugar, low blood pressure, micronutrient deficiencies, medication side effect, hormonal/ endocrine abnormalities etc. I would suggest considering an initial evaluation by a primary care physician and depending on the cause diagnosed/ suspected, it can be managed accordingly or specialist care may be sought.
