Has anyone had a spontaneous csf leak in the anterior thoracic cord region? If so what treatment did your dr persue. I feel like I have been left as the risks are too high to enter chest side. Any ides?
I've had a CSF leak and lump since my lumbar surgery on 01/23/09
After 2 months of waiting for the leak to heal on its own
I went in for the lumbar drain.
5 days in the hospital and when the drain was removed the lump began to return.
The on call Dr. at the hospital told me that it would "eventually" heal
on its own.
I'm still waiting for eventually.
It has been 1 month since the drain and the lump is still there.
Seems I am one of the lucky few that can function and
doesn't have the horrible headaches.
I am however constantly dizzy but have learned to accept it.
Have u heard of little bulge next to where the puncture sight was, inflame fill with fluid and the next day it went away and I'm suffering for three days now with a terrible spinal headace
Hi.
If the CSF leak is not big, it may spontaneously heal within a couple of days to a week. You have to take extra care to prevent infections.
A blood patch on the other hand is a good option. You won't have to worry too much about the leak once you have done the blood patch. Studies have shown a slight advantage of the blood patch over spontaneous healing.
Take your time to decide, but let your doctor know about your dilemma.
