Started in April with burning sensations in left ear. Went to ER said it was wax build up.

Hysteretomy in August-Surgery went great.

Major ear pain started back again in September. Major numbness and weir things started happening with my ear, head, eye and face.

I was hospitalized for 3 days. I had a MRI of head, neck and lumbar in September.  My old Doctor said everything was fine but for the bulging disc in my neck. He said it would not cause those symptoms. Thats why I got a new family Doctor. He said it was my nerves. Now my new Doctor has been sending me to all of these specialist.

I have been tested, (blood) for almost everything but a Spinal. Thought it could be MS?

Popped a crown off in November left side.

January and February=The ENT Doctors (2) of them one from OSU in Columbus, Ohio and the other in my home town. Findings were Osteoma on Bone left ear. The OSU Doctor found that with a Temporal Bone CT Scan. Said it was too small to cause my pain and burning but might be a severe case of TMJ. Sent me to an Oral SURGEON, I had been having problems clentching my teeth @ night and plus I popped of a crown

Reply to your question=The Dentist did give me Antibiotics and said that he thought the bad tooth was my problem. After 2 weeks the symptoms are still there and thats when he referred me to a Neurologist.  Oral surgeon said it was not TMJ.

The ultram makes me feel even worse but the ear and head pain is still there.

This is where I stand now.

I'm waiting to have a MRA of head and neck Monday to look @ the blood vessels.

Wow, I hope I explained it all.....

Thanks for the replies.

God Bless!!!!

Oooops, I got my medications mixed up in the post I just made.  I am assuming you got an antibiotic after your tooth was pulled two weeks ago.  If not, go back to the oral surgeon and ask him to look if you've got a continuing infection and to give you antibiotic.

Two things I wish to say:  In your first post, you said your MRI came back clear, but in your second post, you said it showed a bulging disk.  That could very well be it, and thus I agree completely with the other poster.  Also, in your second post, you said two weeks ago is when the dentist pulled the tooth.  So, I would suggest that if your head slowly improves, especially with the Ultram, it was because of the tooth.  Let us know how things go.

Thanks for your encourangings words.

I know what you mean about being as human just not a patient or just another number.

When I went to see the neurologists I told him that he was last hope and I wasn't there for pills or to seek any mental help. I told him that my problems are not normal for me and that I was finacially broke due to this medical journey.

I will keep you posted and hopefully next week I will find out something.

God bless....and thank you for your thoughts.

I am glad to hear that you will be getting answers soon!  Not knowing and just becoming a number is so frustrating!

I have probably been on over 20 different medications this year, just as you!  It's nice to finally get hope!  The nerve meds did NOTHING for me either!  I am currently on a morphine patch for my neck pain, but my head pain is now minimal!

I am sure that you have, but laying on ice really helped my pain in my head and neck (of course it was only at the time) but it was some relief!  I have one that is made out of four different chambers that I roll so put under my neck, so I can have that "curve" in my neck and the numbing of the ice!

Good luck to you!  Hopefully this doctor see's you as a human, not a "patient"!

Hope to hear some good news from you soon!  Once my Occipital Nerves were put into question, things really started to happen!

Take Care!

Thank you so much. My first appointment with the neurologist asked me what my doctor said about the bulging dics. I told him nothing, he was not helping me thats why I got a new Doctor. The neurologist is going to get a copy of my test.

I have my MRA test Monday of my head and neck. I'm hoping to get some answers and relieve. I'm tired of pain medicine and nerve pills.

I appreciate you responding back.

God Bless you and I will keep in touch!

Wow, you have been through a ton!  As I read all of your procedures and test, I felt I could not help until, you said you had a bulging disc in your neck!  I have two bulged disc's and one ruptured in between those two.  I went to the doctor for months and was finally sent to a pain management doctor who tried nerve blocks directly into my head for the "migraines".  I could not understand the pain that I was having, as it was like the back of my head was on fire and branching out over the top of my head like little needles!  After my second series of blocks, I had to have Radiofrequency Ablation done.  This is where they burn the nerves.  I did have to have it done twice, but I have never felt such relief in my life!  My neurosurgeon as well as my pain doc said that the pressure from the disc and the inflammation of my muscles in my neck were causing nerve damage.  You might want to discuss this with your doc.  Your Occipital nerves run directly up your head from the back of your neck!

I hope this helps you, I know your frustration level and pain as well!

Good Luck to you!

Thank you for your reply.

I have seen 2 ENT between December - Febraury THE OSU SPECIALIST in Columbus found a Osteoma from a temporal bone CTscan, he Said it could be from TMJ to see an oral surgeon. Which I did, 2 weeks ago. I had a tooth cut out which was a crown that I had tried to save. The oral surgeon said my tooth was bad and he thought it might had been causing my ear and head pain. The oral surgeon ruled out TMJ and now I'm seeing a neurologist. I'm having a MRA done of my head and neck as soon as insurance approves it. Will that test help show anything that blood clots, ect??? The ear problem started back in April of last year. AND IT HAS STARTED ON MY RIGHT EAR.
I went to the ER and they cleaned my ear out IN JUNE.
I had shingles on my leg in May. That was a nightmare!!!
I had surgery in August. 08
In September 09 was admitted in Hospital for my ear, head, face legg my whole left side (thats where my shingles was, on my legg) I had burning sensations in my ear, face numbness and a pulling feeling around my left eye. I had MRI of head, neck and spine. You name it for the blood work I had it all.  They also tested me for lymes back in 06 I was bit by a tick and I have not tested positive for the disease. The only thing that came back was a had a bulging disc showing on neck.

My life has changed completely. I'm healthy, athletic and always on go and now I feel like a big disappointed to my daughter. I just want my life back.

I hope I have made sense. I have seen so many Doctors and I'm financially@ the end of my rope.

Keep the faith!!!!!!

My ear and head pain has gotten worse.
The ent Doctor gave me Utram and I'm taking it now. They even had me on Lortab at one time, cymbalta, garbentin, lyr icathe list goes on.........................

Sorry no one replied. This is a busy forum, plus sometimes folks simply don't know the answers.  With your clear MRI, even I am guessing.

Let's see.  A few things come to mind about you.  I really I think you've got an ear problem!  I mean, I assume you have had that checked out, but keep in mind a blood test may not necessarily show if your ear is goofed up.  To be safe, you MUST go to an ear-nose-throat ENT doc very soon and have him check to see if you've got an infection or obstruction way down in your ear that needs treating!  It can cause the whole side of the head to hurt like mad.  And left untreated, it can fester and create a bunch of problems.

Another thing is you may have a bad tooth on that side of your head, it can also hurt just like an earache, so a visit to the dentist for a checkup will rule out that possibility.  And that also should be taken care of right away, because tooth infection can turn into an abscess and make you really sick.

There is a very remote possibility that it could be something a cardiologist needs to investigate...sounds a little bit like you may have a little aneurysm or clot forming in a blood vessel on that side of your head, because you had that operation last summer.  While I think the MRI should have shown that, heart and blood problems can cause the head to hurt like yours.  Since that sort of thing can be really serious, ask your family doc if it would have shown up on the MRI or not, and see will he refer you to a cardio guy, and you should do it straight away if your doc agrees.
