Codman HORROR

I had a codman programmable placed in 2003 for Hydrocephalus. EMORY lost my hospital records and screwed up my clinic records and, consequently is denying that I have the system. My regular doctor didn't put the system in, doesn't use it, and want to know anything about it. I have had it reprogrammed once, to what I don't know, because they wouldn't tell me anything. I have screaming fits because of low-pressure headaches, or something. This system has never worked for me. Early on, I begged them to put the old fixed system back in. Now they won't see me, because they say that I had it replaced in 2009, which didn't happen. I don't know what to do, I can't even find a doctor to see me. WHAT CAN I DO? HELP, PLEASE!!!!!

Thank you for your help!! I have been able to schedule an appointment with someone familiar with the Codman, surprisingly, after explaining my story. I have since learned from my records when I was in Southern Regional that the neurosurgeon that examined me there says that my shunt is not functioning properly, but that I didn't want to have it worked on or replaced. She didn't even present the possibility, but instead said "I wouldn't recommend doing anything, " and I wasn't alert enough to ask her if there was a problem. I have an appointment with a neurosurgeon in Gainesville, Georgia about reprogramming it, but this may only be part of the issue, or an entirely different issue altogether.

Hi there!

While one should be able to get information about the valve and the programmer with Codman, this is actually irresponsible of the hospital. Medically I would suggest seeing a neurologist and possibly have the valve changed. If there are legal issues attached, I would suggest seeing a lawyer.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
