Crackles heard going through neck?

I have had constant headaches since May which are like a pressure and irritatiion. It also intensifies if I try to do any type of physical activity, and I have decreased concentration. I have this bizarre symptom of hearing an "electrical impulse" go up thru my neck into the bottom of my head frequently. I notice it most while lying in bed at night. There are even times when my stomach growls, that a second later, I hear this impulse go into my head. Sometimes it occurs with just turning my head. Is there a name for this, or have you heard of this before. I have had an MRI of the brain which showed pituitary microadenoma and pineal cyst by my internist, but have been told neither are large enough to cause the headaches. I also have Sarcoidosis and degenerative disc disease (S/P 2 lumbar disc surgeries). I was just wondering if I could actually have a problem of the cervical spine which is causing these symtoms. Thank You!

I experience all of the above symtoms.  I have been told it is called tinnitus or the "buzz".  I am currently receiving chiropractic care for the t9 which is related to the stomach and causes a nausea type feeling.  I also receive cranial sacrial physiotherapy which along with a chiropractic adjustment for my TMJ (jaw) disorder and C1/C2 can temporarily make the noise subside.

I know what you are discribing. I experience the very same thing. It happens when my stomache growls and at times when I shift my head. I am curious to know what you might find out. It has woken me before as well.Since it doesn't hurt or anything I have not really look into it further. Do you ever experience a roaring noise in your ears during sleep or when you get up from a sitting position? I was on the internet looking for info on that when I came across your question and just wandered if maybe these symptoms might be related. I doubt it though. I have been having the same symptoms as you for 7 years now and it has not gotten any worse. I know it is a strange sound and when you try to explain it to someone, they think your crazy. well please let me know if you find out anything.

I too understand what you're describing, only I never had it happen when my stomach growls.  I rarely experience it at present, but 3 years ago, it just about drove me nuts.  I was examined by a neurologist, and was told it was stress.  When I described the electrical impulse feeling, I think he thought I was nuts.  He said my symptoms didn't fit into any category for any illness.  I decided to relax and not dwell on it, which was extremely difficult.  Now, I rarely ever feel it, and hope to never go through it again.  I too, felt it mostly at night, and it was maddening trying to get to sleep.  I'm still not sure what it was, but I have to go on with life, and not let it be a source of constant wondering.  I felt it may be any early sign of MS, but since it has gone away, it must not have been anything serious.  I hope your discomfort disappears too.

Dear Holly:

If you have never had headaches before May, I think I would suggest a fully neurological evaluation to try and sort out things.  New onset headaches always should be evaluated, most of the time things are just headaches but we need to be sure.  Yes, shooting pain can be caused by cervical spine problems, especially the higher cervical spine.  Unfortunately, I have no explanation for the stomach noise producing a headache.  If you get the same shooting pain up your spine while taking a hot shower, this is something your internist should know about.  The best bet is to go to a neurologist and get examined.  That way you will be assured, both mentally and emotionally about your headaches and if they are completely benign.

Sincerely,
