Crossing Legs and Numb Area Over Time

Hi everyone!
I have had a numb area on the outside of my right leg for a few years now.

It is the exact same area where I have crossed my legs for years and pressure is frequently applied. I'm trying to stop crossing my legs, but I think the nerve damage is done.

I never have any pain associated with it and I notice nothing until I try to feel that area and the sensation of my fingers against my leg isn't felt much. It just feels more numb on the surface.

How long, if ever, would this take to improve if I stopped crossing my legs? Does it sound like something more serious?

Thanks for all your help and any answers!

Thank you so very much for your reply, Dr. Sharma! I really found it helpful and I appreciate it!
I have an appointment coming up with my general physician to get things clinically evaluated. Hoping for things to go well!

Hello and welcome to the medhelp forum. The patch of numbness on the outer side of right leg, due to crossing of legs is most likely due to peroneal nerve damage. Consult a neurologist to evaluate you clinically for any loss of muscle function in the leg, atrophy of leg muscles. You would require electromyography to check the muscles electrical function and nerve conduction tests for the nerve viability. Based on these tests and clinical loss of function the doctor may tell you about the residual nerve function and whether it is reversible. In the meanwhile, you should avoid the cross leg position consciously. Best wishes.

P.S. I also forgot to mention...I frequently double-cross my legs too and I've been doing that since high school (I'm now 25)!
=Increased pressure!
