hope this helps!
we have consulted the neurologist. But he said there is no problem from that point of view. first of all, we dont know what kind of demylinating neuropathy he has. i think we have to diagnose that.
I have recently been diagnosed with demyelinating neuropathy, and from
research I've done, the symptoms vary greatly from person to person. I
have, in the last few days, had swelling in one foot, the one most affect-
ed by the nerve problem. I have been referred for IVIG treatment, and
have not considered any medication at this time. It's likely, I have had
this problem for as long as two years, but other foot problems made it
hard to recognize, as a separate condition. My symptoms have been
foot slapping, when walking, and foot drop, which caused tripping. I
have recently been experiencing burning sensations in the calves of my
legs, which seems to be on the surface, and is a symptom of my con-
dition. Are you consulting a neurologist, and had the proper testing
done? I am 70 years old, and have been in exceptionally good health
all my life, so this serious condition, that has no known cause, was a
surprise to me.
Thanks for your response. These are the medicines he is taking. The doctor has mentioned as demylinating sensory motor neuropathy. wysolone10mg -1 daily, Nucarnit - 3 tablets daily, Hi-Q - 3 tablets 3 times a day, torsimide - 1/2 tablet daily, lanaxin - 1 morning daily, serrium - 1 daily, multivitamin - 1 tablet daily. The swelling is still there in his legs. Is anything very serious about this problem? We are consulting a general medicine doctor for this problem. is there any specialist for this problem? please suggest.
Hi,
It is difficult to comment without examining the patient and knowing exactly what type of demyelinating neuropathy he has. There are various treatment options available depending upon the type of demyelinating neuropathy like pulse steroid, plasma exchange, IVIG, tegretol and neurontin.
Tegretol may not be suitable since he has an enlarged liver but you can discuss other treatment options with his treating doctor.
Good luck!
