Depakin and Tinnitus

Thanks in advance for your time guys

I've been taking Depakin chrono 300mg for about 4 months (under prescription of my analyst of course), because of great problems of anxiety. A month ago I started hearing an unpleasant noise in my ears (it actually sounded more like in my brain), and of course went to an audiologist to verify my hearing, which didn't seem damaged. I then discovered that this "Tinnitus" is one of the most common effect of the chronic usage of depakin. Is this side effect permanent? Or will it disappear in due time whether I suspend the cure? Actually my analyst is not reachable at the moment hence I couldn't ask him, but I'm truly worried about this. Any help would be really appreciated! Thanks!

Have you ever heard of "Rivotril"
(Oral solution: clonazepam)?
I suffer epilepsy and I literally went through Hell to not get Depakin! It's been 6 years now, and my life is better than ever! Before I started to have anxiety caused by surprised epileptic attacks..horrible! Couldn't live at all.
Depakin has way too much side effects, get rid of it ASAP!
Rivotril is amazing,it makes you sleep 7-8 hours straight and when you wake up you'll feel sleepy but it'll be okay and the good thing is that you expel it via urine.
My advice is anytime you take medicines always make sure to know if your allergic to it and research your own, on the internet or books or friends, anything that could be useful, the side effects that you could get. Honestly, doctors will only tell you the 1% truth beside of it, so it's your job to know what your body is taking.
Hope my comment will be useful.
Regards.

Thanks for your help Dr Mathur. Just another thing: once I've been switched off the drug, will the tinnitus disappear immediately or will it take some time for my hearing to recover? Actually my doctor wasn't specific on that!

Hi!
Yes, Depakin chrono can cause tinnitus as a side effect and this is usually reversible on stopping the drug. Your doctor can slowly switch you off the drug and start you on another drug to manage anxiety. Take care!
