Diamox

My daughter is being tested for Psuedotumor, and is being given diamox in the interim.  She has a prior history of tingling in the heels of her feet.  This tingling has increase tremendously since her hospitalization and is now apparent in the fingertips of her right hand and one event of tingling to the lower jaw area.  She is overweight, with a significant weight gain in the last two years.  Her spinal pressure was rated at 35 and the liver enzyme was 116 (exact test is unknown).  The optial nerves were swollen at the time of admission and she had visual spots.  My main concern at this point is the increased tingling in the extremities. She describes it as not the feeling of falling asleep pains but just tingling.  The occurrance are several times within an hour.  Autoimmune testing and nerve test will be done today. Please, any info will be appreciated.

Tingling in the extremities is a common side effect of Diamox

Your doctors and your daughter need to decide if a reduction in dose or discontinuation of diamox should be done, if the symptoms are severe enough. Diamox is of limited usefulness in Pseudotumor, so it may be necessary to treat her with other therapies anyway (for instance if there is a risk of loss of vision) such as optic nerve fenestration or CSF shunting

Good luck

I am a current user of Diamox, the tingling in your daughters hands and feet and face is a common side effect of the Diamox. It will slowly deminish with time once the medicine is in the system at a steady rate. I am currently taking the Diamox for Swollen Optic Nerves & Intracranial Pressure which was 30. I've been on the medicine for nearly 3 weeks now and the tingling is slowly going away each day! I will go back at the end of March to see if the medicine is helping my problem. I've had MRI's MRA's and a Spinal Tap and tested the spine fluid all came back normal so far :)I was told to lose some extra pounds which I'm 30 pounds overweight and to go on a low sodium diet. However, I send best wishes to your daughter and hopes all turn out well for her and you. :) But in any case, talk with the Doctors and let them know what she is feeling. Take all necessary steps to ensure your peace of mind and that of your daughters. Stress only adds to the troubles try to stay stress free :)
Sincerely, Chasity :)
