About a month ago I had a couple severe episodes of vertigo? two days in a row-the room appeared to be spinning and I had this feeling of being pulled downward. I went to employee health day one and was diagnosed with vertigo, prescribed meclizine and told to relax for day. The next day I returned to work had another episode, spent several hours with dizziness-not able to tolerate standing up or being in supine position without spinning feeling continuing. I saw primary care doctor was told to continue with meclizine and also take claritin. I was in bed and sleeping for next 4 days taking meclizine 3x per day. The dizziness continued and I was unable to function without dizziness and great effort. I returned to primary care doctor and was prescribed prednisone and referred to ENT. When I saw ENT series of tests were given and I was diagnosed with BPPV and told to perform Epsley exercises for 2 weeks. The morning I awoke after one day of doing Epsley I was in excruciating pain at base of skull into neck/shoulders and bilateral forearms, wrists and hands. I also had decreased strength in hands and unable to open jar-never had this before. I continued exercises for 2 weeks and each time I felt worse after doing them. I was wearing scopalomine patches to decrease nausea and dizziness to return to work. I had been out of work and not driving for over a week. I started seeing a physical therapist. I had 4 sessions where I had my neck in traction and performed exercises. I was then told dizziness was being caused by allergy/sinus issues and to keep taking claritin and wearing patches. It has been a month of wearing patches and taking claritin. I stopped patches a few days ago and dizziness has gotten worse again and I am having some neck pain and trouble with concentrating, remembering things. I have follow up with ENT at end of week and want to get MRI/CAT scan to check for impinged artery/pinched nerve of neck. What could be happening?
