I am a 29 year old Caucasian female, and for the past, oh, maybe seven years my hands have been more or less unsteady. However, they did not interfere much with anything I was doing, I was just unlikely to attempt anything like miniature figurine painting. But in the past two years or so, the shaking has gotten worse. It first got my attention when I was out having tea with my mother, and when I went to pick up the tea cup, my hand shook uncontrollably and I ended up spilling and burning my hand and wrist. Then more occurrences like that began to follow in increasing frequency. Now I can't draw anymore. However, I still have my good days where they barely shake at all. Unfortunately, the day I went to go see a neurologist for the first time was one of my good days. I told him of the symptoms, but the darned hands just would not shake. Nonetheless he told me it was likely just essential tremors, and there isn't much to be worried about. He then told me to diet and exercise to deal with my incapacitating migraines.
However, while hopping around on some people's blog's, one entry caught my eye. A woman with migraines and essential tremors. At some point she described how her hands shook so bad she had trouble getting ready in the mornings without either help, or literally steadying her arm against a wall or something like that. What got my anxiety up is that she mentioned that essential tremors only get worse, especially due to stress/anxiety, and are irreversible. I don't know if this is true or not (I checked around, but not too diligently, for info about it, but nothing I read confirmed or denied it). So now I wonder... how bad can I really expect this shaking to get? I am an anxious and easily stressed person.
Furthermore... I guess I sort of felt that the neurologist didn't answer a lot of my questions, but when I think back, I was a bit nervous, so I probably didn't ask the right questions to get the kinds of detailed answers I was seeking. What is on my mind mostly is this: are essential tremors often a precursor to other neurological issues? Like I said, some of the web pages I looked at were very vague about essential tremors. A lot of 'it isn't know what the cause is' and 'there are some disorders that have ET as a symptom but on its own it isn't life threatening' and all that sort of thing.
tl;dr
Will my minor essential tremors get worse, and can they be signs of something worse going on in my brain?
ps. I did have a CT scan, but I haven't heard back about the results.
