Global Paresthesia

For 10 months I have had global paresthesia (every part of my body) and have been evaluated for diabetes, heavy metal poisoning, VB12 deficiency, too much VB6, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, lyme disease, and with EMG study..  Diagnosis is idiopathic central nervous system disorder.  Treatment is for symptoms - gabapentin and alprazolam.  The global paresthesia is present within minutes of awakening and persists throughout the day and evening (until sleep) at levels ranging from slight to moderate.  The GP came on suddenly and has persisted for 10 months.  I have no other significant symptoms or illness.  I do not smoke and use very little alcohol.  Can anyone come up with a cause and/or treatment regimen?

@ Ken , how is your global paresthesia today, after 10 years? I just came accross your symptoms and was curious if they progressed or stayed and what meds did you take, thank you

Good to here about that and follow all the conditions which keep you healthy, as for GP as the reasons are not clear, as we mentioned sometimes there is no aetiology, follow up near your nerurologist regularly, and inform of any additional symptoms. Take care!

I have seen a neurologist who did the EMG and numerous other tests.  He ruled out MS and similar diseases as well as brain tumors and heavy metal poisoning.  I am in good health except for the GP which is more of an irritant than it is debilitating.

Thanks for your response.

Most of the causes have no aetiology. Continue the medications and lead a stress free life. Eat balanced diet, exercise, have proper sleep. Consult a neurologist and go for regular examination, over a period of time you get diagnosis based on your symptoms. Take care!
