Had 3 seizures and confused on diagnosis...

I have had 3 seizures in the last year, all of them split up by about 3 months time. The last one was 4 months ago. I was finally able to get a referral to a neurologist recently and he immediately started me on Keppra, 500mg 2x a day. I feel uncomfortable taking this medication without fully understanding my condition. I also have sleep apnea and was wondering if this could cause "waking seizures", which is what I experience. Is 1000mg Keppra a normal dosage to start on for someone who has no diagnosed condition and no prior seizures? The neurologist I saw was very vague and rushed during my visits, and had no answers for me.... Any one have any advice or information?
