I am a 40 yr old female with a history of migraines. I've always used Topamax as a maintenance rx & Imitrex injections as a rescue rx. My migraines have been under control for over a yr. In the last 3 months, my headaches have returned. I have also noticed that memory (short & long term) & my cognitive skills have been affected. I.E. I can't remember parts of conversations that I only had 5 minutes ago. I've fogotten words to songs & poems that I've known for yrs because I wrote them. I've worked as an accountant for over 15 yrs. In the past 6 wks, I haven't been able to pass the assessment tests for employment (Excel, Word, Math, Basic Acctg). I recently had an MRI & the report reads: 2 subtle foci of T2 prolongation in the posterior right parietal lobe. Subtle curvilinear area of enhancement in the left side of the pons, image 17 of series 9. Increased T1 signal on the left side of the petrous apex may represent some proteinaceous fluid. Can someone tell me what this mean in English, please? The neurologist seems to think that my headaches returned because I was switched from the name brand TOPAMAX to the generic TOPIRAMATE. The time line of the med change & the return of the headaches would fit. However, I'm more concerned with my loss of memory & cognitive skills.
