Hole in SPinal Cord!

I thought I would start a new post since Suzie's was so old.  I recently had a C3-C7 laminectomy w a C2-T1 cervical fusion. In 1994 I had a C1-C2 posterior fusion, having had 6 mm of instability of my odontoid ligament.  After years of every kind of treatment available it was discovered that I had serious compression of my spinal cord at C3-C4 and various problems throughout my cervical spine.  My hands becoming seriously numb, I chose an excellent surgeon at UPMC in Pittsburgh, PA and had the above surgeries.  Knowing that this surgeon was very familiar with this surgery and being concerned about future paralysis I had the surgery. As with any extensive surgery, the first few days were tough but basically the doctors kept me pain free and it wasn't all that bad. My biggest concern is that my surgeon had stated that when he made the first cut into the back of my neck he could instantly see a hole in my spinal cord that was leaking fluid. Generally surgeons are used to seeing slices etc to the cord, but mine was a small pin hole.  The most recent of my treatments were epidural so and nerve blocks! Now, what else would have caused a pin hole in my spinal cord than a pin or needle?  Suzie if you are still around I would love to hear how you are doing and what was your final diagnosis and treatment plan.  I don't have a lot mor to add to this post but am very interested to hear of folks with similar cervical problems.  I was told that without the surgery I would have been a total quadrepalegic within a year!  So I thank God that this was discovered.  I originally saw an orthopedic surgeon about a hip replacement.  It was by chance that I asked my PCP to order an MRI of my entire spine.  Looking forward to talking with others.  Thanx
