If I Want an MRI

If I want an MRI does it matter what the doctors opinion of my condition is? Does it matter if the doctors don't think I need one?

I have someone wrong with me you see, I am very uncomfortable all the time and my body feels so wrong, it's driving me insane. My doctor thinks it's disassociation (for some reason). I am certain it's not. I need to get to the bottom of this but doctors I see are only interested in telling me it's disassociation.

If I go to a doctor and say that I want an MRI will I get one?

In the United States you can get an MRI if you want none, but without a physician's consult insurance may not pay. For a long time free MRI's were given in New York in a traveling van. They would summarize the findings and present you with a free disc of the result. There are two types of imaging. An MRI and an MRA. In the MRA dye contrast solution is injected intravenously and this enables the circulation and blood vessels to be more clearly defined. There are other neurological tests that could be considered such as an EEG. Good luck.

Thanks caregiver. Because doctors are very helpful to me, I'm left to figure out what might be the best course of action, the only reason I say MRI is because it's the only type of brain scan that I know of. If the doctors believed there was something more serious wrong with me they could offer me the best scan. But it's left up to me :/

I guess I should have mentioned that I live in England. Does anyone know if I could get an MRI in England just by demanding (politely of course) one?

This board does allow editing, shame that. Anyway I type "are" instead of "aren't". The doctors aren't helpful.

The "Bobby Mercer" free MRI van was available recently in New York. Do a google search. The van would provide an absolutely free MRI to anyone. The same day. It would pay for you to fly to New York if this is still available. In the United Kingdom it is difficult or impossible to get one without going through the system.
