Is Tourette Syndrome hereditary or environmentally induced?

My husband has Tourette Syndrome. No-one else in his family has it, to his knowledge. Our infant son(9 months) started "spasming" intermittently, a few months ago, and seems be slowly progressing to different extremities. He started with a full body jerking motion that he does for like 2 seconds usually when being held(looks like he's coming in for a hug but then does this full body shutter), now he seems to have a head nod and right shoulder shrug that happens repetitively when he gets tired. My husband is very upset because he was bullied for his twitching as a child. Is this probably Tourette's or is it too soon to tell? And if its environmentally induced, what toxins or ? should I be looking for to eliminate.

Hello, my son has tics & has had Tourette’s. He had lots of allergies as a baby - tomatoes, sugar, laundry powder etc.
Have you breastfed your son? If so it could be something in your diet that is passing through your milk. I kept a food journal for my son. It took about 2 weeks to work out what was irritating him.
He still has tics today at 17, but they are intermittent. He was homeschooled up to 14 & then went to college. I think being well hydrated, sugar free (he doesn’t choose to do this himself sadly), and eating fresh foods all helped him. I can’t control what he eats now as he’s 17 & earning ££.
