MS and low platelets

Does anyone know if MS can cause a drop in your platelet count?  I'm having MS type symptoms and my platelets are lower than average on my blood work.  Thanks!

What ever happened?  I have possible early ms my neuro says because of brain mri showing 3 lesions and my left side of face and head went tingly and numb for a week.  Also have low platelets at 117,000

Hi Dr,

No, I don't have a confirmed diagnosis yet, so no treatment. My brain and cervical MRI's have been normal along with my EMG, even though I have a lot of the symptoms including heat/humidity intolerance.  The only thing coming back slightly abnormal has been my platelets (127,135, 141 and 139).  Also, my quant IgA was slightly elevated at 421.  I'm scheduled for evoked potentials in a couple weeks.  Any input is much appreciated.  Thanks Dr!

Hello dear and welcome to the medhelp forum. There have been reports and studies analyzing the concomitant role of autoimmune disorders like thyroiditis, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura along with Multiple sclerosis. Has your neurologist confirmed MS? Are you already on therapy? There have been studies on association of interferon therapy and drug induced idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. Consult a neurologist for these symptoms and appropriate diagnosis. There are specific diagnostic criteria for MS. I would not be able to comment further without more details.
