Medication

Again, I had a brain tumor removed 4 mos ago. Been on Vicodin( for the daily severe pain) but now they want to put me on Ultram because Vicoding is a narcotic-addicting. Isnt Ultram/Tramadol addicting also?? I read the side effects and they scare me. Can anyone tell me if they have used Ultram and what was the outcome?

I use tramacet which is tramadol plus acetamitophen. Or however you spell 'tylenol'. LOL

Anyways, it's way less addicting as far as stats go. It's also has a lot less side effects. If you can tolerate the switch, I'd go for it. If it's not enough for you, don't hesitate to say so, but give it a whirl.

I find that tramacet works way better for me if taken before the pain gets pretty bad.

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
Tramadol is an atypical opiod analgesic. It has a lower risk for dependence and addiction as compared to the typical opiods. However dependence is known to occur in high doses and over long term use.
The side effects include nausea, vomiting, sweating and constipation. However please remember that side effects do not occur in everyone and also all drugs have side effects. It is the balance between the beneficial effects and harmful effects that matter. If beneficial effects are more than harmful ones it is worth trying.

Hey...thanks for adding me as a friend!!! I wish it were easy finding out the right medications to help with headaches....I have been trying for almost 2 years now with no success. Please do not let it discourage you in any way!!! keep fighting and trying to get better and try to get back what you think is normal...not that any of us are after a brain surgery. lol. But consistency also has been know to help headaches....get up at the same time every day and go to bed the same time every night. Look into a tyramine free diet because for people that have headaches a lot of things can trigger them that we eat. Just got to wikipedia.com and search for tyramine Diet and it will tell you what things are good and bad for you. Make sure you eat 3 meals a day and I have noticed that a nap in the middle of the day helps sometimes. After 2 years of trying to be headache free I was told by a doctor that I might not ever be...but I am not willing to accept that! lol. I'm just about willing to try anything and EVERYTHING to prove them wrong and most importantly to feel better. what kind of tumor did you have. I had an AVM hemorrhage\stroke...didnt really know that was what it was. the first time was in 2004 just thought I was having a bad headache for a couple weeks and some kind of flu bug or something. But in 2006 it was much worse and lasted for almost a month and found out about the hemorrhaging and some doctors consider and avm hemorrhaging a stroke and some don't. Its weird....lol. Let me know if I can be of any help toyou. :)
