Mercury poisoning

I have been diagnosed with Mercury poisoning from fish consumption.  Do you recommend a specialist in the country to go to for treatment?

If you take omega 3 fish oils, make sure they say mercury free. You can get them at health food stores.

I just started a DMSA cycle prescribed via my ND.  He wanted 5 days on at 750mg/day then 5 days off.  I am doing it at 250mg/day for 4 days, then 3 days off.  I'm 36 and was in good shape up until my mercury exposure but the burning throughout my back and into my ears and front of the forehead haven't dissipated as of yet.  The dizziness and brain fog has seemed to have died down since being one week past my amalgam filling removal, the last being on May6/08.  What caused me to be symptomatic was when I was hobby working with pressure treated wood in an enclosed space back in Oct/07.  I was cutting wood for a cat house, but realized an hour or so afterwards that the circular saw I was using had the blade on back words.  I gulped down the blue smoke for over an hour straight, thinking no harm would come.  It's sad that it took the medical community until Mar/08 to believe what I was telling them as they had me thinking I was just going crazy!  And believe, the sxs I was experiencing were really making me crazy as much as I was trying to fight it.  The delusional thoughts and panic attacks seemed to have dissipated along with the brain fog, but I know I am not my chipper self.  I've been working for 20 years now and I can tell you that the mercury has reduced my strength by about 60% of what it was no matter how hard I train to recover.   I'm hoping the DMSA and clean diet get me feeling better than I did back in October when this all blew up on me.

I am undergoing chelation for high mercury levels. It is an oral chelation, and, YES, it is a long process. My sxs are mostly neuropathy of the lower legs. My nerologist says it will be at least 6 months post-treatment before I'll know if the nerve pain will decrease. My main concern is the mercury in my brain, which cannot be chelated out. I have yet to really ask my doc about that aspect of my prognosis b/c I'm afraid of the answer. This is all very scary..... I am sorry you are going through it, too. It isn't easy to find real expertise in this area b/c it is pretty rare.
Best wishes,

You need to find a specialist that will listen to you and take their time with you. You might find you are better off with an ND instead of an MD.

There are lots of chelation agents, from gental herbal mixes (HMD, NDF) to stronger drug compounds (EDTA, DMSA, DMPS).

As ldab said, it is a long process and has ups and downs. That can make it difficult and demoralizing at times.

I am about halfway through mercury chelation treatment myself. I have been going for a few months now and expect a few more at least. I was informed and found that I have mercury issues before it got to the extreme of some people, This is because I have a close friend who went through mercury poisoning and encouraged me to get tested quickly, when other doctors couldn't find anything wrong with me.

Good luck.

Hi, I am not sure that you need to go to another country, but you do need to start treatment as soon as possible.

I was tested thoroughly for metal/medicines & pesticides poisoning in Oct 06 as I had all the symptoms, especially for Lead.  Apart from the hair loss and balding in the front of my head, all tests came back clear.  They tested by way of urine sample.

Please search 'mercury poisoning' and all the necessary help will appear.  Here is an extract for you to read just how important it is that you start with the chalation treatment (also bear in mind it is a long process).  These were options the medical specialist proposed, whilst I was undergoing numerous tests and waiting poisoning results.

"The human body can not, unaided, process and remove mercury from the brain and nervous system. Therefore, in cases of mercury poisoning, radical therapies are required to eliminate the contaminant. Chelation therapy is the therapy currently used, in which chelating agents are introduced. Chelating agents can form bonds with the poisonous heavy metals, and then the compound created can be eliminated."

Hope this helps, take care
