Nerve Conduction Study: Side Effects and Chronic Trigger?

I had a NCS done two days ago on my right arm, hand, and lower right leg. During the test, I found it painful, but not unbearable. Results came back normal. That night, after I had a shower and went to bed, I started to get spasms. Now, on night two, I can fall asleep, but am getting very painful electric-type shocks that wake me up. I have done a lot of reading on forums, and it seems for some that this test can be a start or an unlocking of a chronic never or vein condition-for some, it seems to fade after about a week.

I would really like to hear from others as to their experiences, and what I can expect. There is practically no information on side effects on any website. I did hear from the tech that did my test that it can effect people in varying degrees. Oh, I should explain I had a head injury about a year ago, and my GP sent me in for testing as I was getting random, intermittent numbness and tingling in my toes and fingers. I also have a radial head fracture in my right elbow. My pain has intensified and increased since this test. Thanks for reading and your sharing of information and experience.

Hi,
How long did your symptoms last? I had a study done and two days later my symptoms (numb hands) became much worse and also now have constant pins and needles.

Have you tried any ice or heat to the affected areas yet?  You might want to see which works best for you (it varies from person to person, and you are now a few days out from the procedure).  Perhaps the EMG/NC aggrevated something and you need to give it time to settle down.  Try resting the affected limb and the ice/heat.

In the meantime, if it doesn't improve, report it to your doctor.  Let us know how you do.
