Nerve Problems after 8 day coma, can I get some replies please?

last month I went into a coma due to severe pneumonia in both lungs and spent 3 weeks in the hospital.
unfortunately we have no idea how long I'd gone with low O'2 sats since hubby found me that afternoon after letting me sleep in. we had no clue it was that serious, I thought it was bronchitis which i get each year.

after 8 days I woke but noticed my pinky fingers on each hand were numb as was the side of that hand. the numbness varies but its always there and can be pins and needles or completely numb.

I was told that the nerves there could repair themselves but it would take months.  also my left leg has some numbness from the mid calf to the upper thigh. my muscles in the knee there atrophied for some reason (the other leg is fine)

any ideas on why it's only on my left side?   could it be related to brain damage (i started having seizures)?

are there any treatments other than neurontin?

thanks, i have an appointment coming up on the 30th.the damage to my knee was done after my first appointment out of the hospital. I asked about the numbness in my arms and got answers to that.

I know they suspected a stroke of some kind with me which would explain why it's only my left leg affected.  I should check that. I know the risks of 2 meds, dilantin and coreg but that's about it. :)

thns for the info

Hi. It sounds like you went thru a horrible, scarey time. I'm glad you are better and, as w/me, some things took a long time to heal. May I ask why your Dr. has not answered all your questions about this? Apparently nerves do take a long time to heal. I've had numbness for yrs tho from disc dmg & atrophy. I would post this in a few other areas and the dr. forum. But I would make an appt to sit down w/your doc for a consulation and have him/her explain what is going on, why and what you can do about it. Also, in the meantime while you are waiting for similar experiences, you could type in the search line at top: e.g. the drug you are taking, severe pneumonia, high fever, seizures.(one by one) This will bring up ARCHIVED POSTS along with info. on each area. This site will gather all that info for you. Hope you will mend soon. GB
