Neurological symptoms

Hi,

I'm a 32 yo female, healthy, with 3 young active children. My 3 yo and 4 yo with Multiple Special Needs.

I was taken to the ER by ambulance 5 weeks ago. I woke at midnight with Central Chest pain and a burning feeling when I breathed. I had a shooting pain that shot across my back to my left shoulder and under my ribs on the left side.

Whilst waiting for the ambulance the left side of my body went numb quickly (left side of my face, tongue, arm, hand, body, leg and foot.

In the ER I had:

ECG x 3 - Normal
Blood Tests x 3 - Normal
Chest X-ray - Normal
CAT scan Chest - Normal.

I was also lightheaded, dizzy, mild headache, lost ability to put thoughts into words. The 'episode' or left sided numbness lasted 6 days. I did present at the ER again on Day 3. They did a CAT scan of the brain, which was normal and blood test - Normal.

I saw a Neurologist 3 weeks ago  and nothing showed in the neurological tests. He ordered a MRI of the brain and more Blood Tests.

I got the results a week later. MRI - Normal. Blood Tests - Normal.

I've also had an Exercise Stress Test which was normal.

I arranged to see my neuro. again today. I still have numbness in my little pinkie finger.I also had my 2nd 'episode' 1 week ago where my left side of my face went numb for 2 days - no other symptoms.

The neuro. today ran a tissue across my face and I couldn't feel it on my left side, only right side. He used a pin ***** thing and again I couldn't feel anything on my left side of face, only right.

The neuro. also put this vibrating metal thing just above my forehead in the middle and I could only hear it in my left ear.

He got me to close my eyes, arms out, palms up, fingers apart and I had shaking in my left hand.

He wants to arrange another MRI, but decided to wait a few weeks until I see him again. I'm to call him ASAP if I have vision issues ie. double vision and facial issues - especially dropping of my face.

Do you have any idea what could be wrong?  Why the repeat MRI of the brain (the last was normal and only 2 weeks ago)

Any other information / suggestion greatly appreciate

Thanks!

Add me to the club of wanting answers for my problems I'm having.

I think my body is getting worse by the day.  My hands, head, and feet shake when I move them.  My muscles seem tight (they are not cramping up).  My head has a burning sensation and sometimes hurts like a ton of bricks feel on it. My throat is frequently sore.
Oh yeah. My fingers and toes tingle just about every day (The tingling has happened since I was a young child.).

It' time for the neurologist/Dr. of neuroscience to call me up.

Hmm, if I may leap in here...? Complicated migraine is a diagnosis of exclusion, so all else should be thoroughly investigated and ruled out beforehand.

Sadly though, many DUMB and STUPID medics just grab for this dx because there are meds available and they more or less keep the patient too zonked to think and ask for more tests. (Moi? Cynical?!)

What about a cervical angiogram and myelogram?

Yes you should have a spinal mri. Since your symptoms seem to be all above your waist it could be somthing in your spine. A pinched nerve or somthing like that.

Dont you just love the "wait and see" approach. ...What exactly are you waiting for? LOL....

Please Take Care, Theresa

Hi,

I thought I'd post in this thread instead of starting another.

I saw my neuro. again after my previous post. He's going to 'wait and see' for now, until my next appointment in Jan.

He plans to do another MRI. I'm assuming the brain again.

I have another question:

Would it be worth asking for an MRI of my spine, given my symptoms?

TIA

Hi,

I've had another 'episode' on Sunday. The left side of my face went numb, especially around the cheek / mouth area. It was noticed by a family member that the left side had dropped, especially around the laugh lines. I've also had aching arms (both) and across the shoulders.

Today (Monday) my face has altered sensation / numbness. My fingers (left hand) have a altered sensation.

Just waiting for  my neuro. to call back.

What the heck is going on?

TIA

Thanks for the fast reply. I'm sorry your going through a similar thing.

The ER put on their report, 'Possible Migraine'

The report I received from the neuro. after my first appointment stated, atypical presentation for Migraine, MS and stroke.

I hate the unknown and the waiting *****!

Take Care.

Hi,
I'm sorry you experience theses scary symptoms. I have been dealing with my issues since 1/09.
I suffer from the exact same symptoms except my right side is affected the most.I experience facial drooping with mine. The first time I had this happen I thought I was having a stroke. I suffer from all sorts of neurological weirdness from head to toe.
I was initially diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis and complicated migraines with aura. Now because of 15 brain lesions and all the rest of my symptoms I am now heading towards a MS dx.
Migraines could be causing your symptoms. Like I said the type of migraines I get mimic stroke. if your neuro doesnt mention it you may want to. Until I started having migraines I never knew the extent of the damange and chaos they can cause.
Take care...
