femoral nerve cramps

for one year, off and on, I have been experiencing cramps of the femoral nerve. The pain is incredible when a big cramp attacks. It is not in the muscle. That is when I was told it was an inflammed femoral nerve and was prescribed prednisone and though the severity of the cramps lessened, they are begining to return and gradually increasing in pain and frequency. Massage, heat, stretching and 'Tens' units do not seem to give relief. I wear a lumbar brace quite often and wonder if it could be responsible. If the brace is not the cause, what causes the nerve to cramp and what can I expect as a remedy?

I've been looking for an answer for my leg cramps and saw your post.  I know exactly the incredible pain you describe and it is  not in the muscle.  It feels like an internal rope twisting deep inside. Overwhelmed by waves of pain, all I can do is cry until it subsides.  Sometimes I get an encore and it happens a second time.  One of my thighs is completely numb all the time now but the worst part is now I have cramps and neuropathy in my feet and my toes are curling.  The podiatrist referred me to a neurologist.  I have an appointment at the end of this month.  I see much time has passed since you posted.  I hope you have  found some relief.  I just want you to know that after I read this, I felt so much better.  stupid right? anyway,  thanks so much for sharing.
