Numbness in Upper Left Lateral Thigh

Hello, I have just experienced numbness take place in my upper left thigh on the the outer side.  It radiates half way to the front of my thigh.  It seems the numbness is only affecting the skin, as if local anesthetic has been injected. It does not extend to my hip.  I have been experiencing this for about an 2 hours.  I was not feeling this all day until evening today. I have not taken a nap or have slept on my left side. Any ideas of what could possible cause this?
Thank you so much for your time.
Jenby :)
