PLEASE HELP...

I am just wondering if anyone knows if eagles syndrome can be deadly? And if anyone can tell me what some of this means... this is from my CAT scan from a few weeks ago...No evidence of acute fracture. Paranasal sinuses are well aerated. There is extensive elongated calcifications of the stylohyoid ligaments as can be seen with Eagle Syndrome. 8mm nodular density in the partially visualized right parotid gland represent intraparotid lymph node or possibily primary parotid neoplasm. There are prominent subcentimeter cervical lymph nodes. No obvious soft tissue swelling or fluid collection identified.

Hi, Thank you for your question. Eagle syndrome is a quite rare condition appears due to elongated styloid process. Clinical manifestation includes sore throat, difficult in eating, ringing in ear, unilateral facial and neck pain, and ear pain. Sometimes the elongated styloid process comes in contact with the extra-cranial internal carotid artery and leads to compression (while turning the head) leading stroke or neurological symptoms. Treatment is only surgical called partial styloidectomy. Please arrange an appointment with a neurologist who will evaluate the further prognosis here and can provide you an appropriate treatment. Hope this helps.

Following 2 MVA's and treated for a head and neck injury was adjusted by a chiropractor 15 months ago and have had unilateral facial edema 3 x weekly with reddness of the cheek area on occassion. It is exacerbated with chores, typing and walking dogs. I was placed on several seizure neds and presently on Epitol which seems to help, I have had negative MRI, and MRA's for lesions or tumors. With the swelling is temporal pain, sinus to nose pain, mouth, jaw, throat, tongue and even my molars are supersensitve with pains well. I do have bilateral TMJ and Earnest Syndrome and diagonsed as atypical facial pain. Originally I had severe headaches with vertigo and even nystagmus right after the first MVA. The pain seems to travel along the trigeminal nerve yet trigeminal neuralgia is ruled out. It also seems to travel along the temporal artery and that side hit the windshield. The airbag did misalign my jaw with a great impact. Having so many sites in pain with the swelling and even generates to clavicl and end of deltoid muscle down my right arm when off epitol. I am so tired of being told I am unusual and symptoms bizarre. I have photos and witnesses of the swelling and redness including doctors. All other doctors than the neurologist say I have atypical trigeminal neuralgia. My Epitol trial is soon to be completed and has helped enormously as long as I restrict all activities. I also get sharp pain above the temple that is brief but feels as if something drastic is about to happen like a stroke. The area below my earlobe is very sensitive with pain and nerves to throat. I am a retired PICU nurse and have helped so many and seems like I solo in my plight. Help.
